Saracen 16 Posted February 6, 2007 For those who haven't played the game or the Beta. This got released today, it's 1.1GB of Demo to download. Go to the link below for good download speed and no friggin queues http://files.filefront.com/Supreme+Command...;/fileinfo.html *Edit* I am glad I'm getting a new rig within the next few weeks. My comp meets the minimum spec and the game still refuses to start  Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted February 7, 2007 *downloads* I'll see on Friday how good it is....grades Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 6 Posted February 7, 2007 My Uncle Torrent gave me the beta.. I was kind of unimpressed.... Eh... Share this post Link to post
Sonic 293 Posted February 8, 2007 Thanks to a local mirror of the SupCom demo I grabbed it, downloaded the 1.1 GB in just under 30 mins, at about 660 KB/sec from http://www.gpdownloads.co.nz/dl.dyn/Files/3625.html I gave the demo a whirl, not my style of game. To much micro management for my liking. Performance wise, it ran perfectly on my system, most options set to high. Some nice little effects but I think C&C 3 may edge SupCom in this department. Saracen 16 Posted February 14, 2007 I gave this game a good 2 hours running, and indeed it's smooth and runs well, but I'm very unimpressed by the whole thing. First and foremost, this just seemed like Total Annihilation 3D. Everything about it screamed 10 year old game. Nothing seems to have changed, the build structure is remarkably similar, and so is the gameplay. Secondly, I don't have clostrophobia but the interface takes up way too much of the screen. Too many buttons, too much info and not enough battlefield to look at. Everything felt tight, closed and I just didn't feel I could interact fluidly with the whole thing. Which brings me to my next point. The game's number 1 selling point also feels like its biggest weakness. Zooming. I must have spent more time zoomed way out from the action to control my forces. It feels like I'm playing that game SimAnt, you quite simply have to zoom out because the interface clogs so much up! I don't have narcolepsy either, but if I wanted to fall asleep playing a game, this would be it. I thought this game was tirelessly slow. The pace was well and truly off. OK it's a demo but if I want to build my Zeus Bomber quickly to take advantage of an opening I've created, I've gotta plan that 3 minutes in advance. There's a few other things as well like how despite the fact that the game was running smoothly, the scrolling around the map felt like I was running this thing on my old 2Ghz PC. I even lowered the settings down heavily to make sure I wasn't trying to push my comp to the limit, but no... super smooth actions going on, but a stuttering map scroll. I tell you one thing, thank god my new ISP doesn't have bandwidth caps. That was 1.1Gb of data, as well as 2 hours wasted. And I want them back! Share this post Link to post
Koen 2 Posted February 20, 2007 Hmm, I quite like the game. Yes, it takes ages. But I really like what the user interface can do: letting factories support each other, so you only need to issue build orders at a single factory. Only unit movement is slow... Share this post Link to post
Sonic 293 Posted February 20, 2007 Hmm, I quite like the game. Yes, it takes ages. And thats what I hate about it. I tried playing the demo again on the skirmish map, waiting and waiting for some action..... its just to boring. I want a faster style of gameplay and the sooner I get to blow **** up the better. Overall, SupCom is just to boring and uninspiring..... I'd rather play C&C Generals ......... did I just say that!! Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 6 Posted February 21, 2007 The AI sucks but play it online and you'll get fast pace. But yea the demo should inspire you to get the full game.. Which it apparently didn't. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted February 22, 2007 Funnily enough, the more I play this game, the more I like it. Probably something to do with the fact that I managed to nuke and wipe out the AI's entire base with a singular nuke... Plus now I have moved the interface to a C&C style, it's kinda growing on me. HighFlyer15 0 Posted March 12, 2007 ^^ Wow.. Can't believe SupCom is actually making a C&C comfortable.. First C&C player I've heard say that.. Things I wanna point out about SupCom which isn't the same as C&C(gaming experiencewise!).. There's lots so I won't point out the obvious ones like the zoom feature, the experimentals units or the queue feature, which really makes every other RTS game boring afterwards, since you have to sit around and wait before you can queue up new buildings.. How to win in SupCom.. In every game there's atleast 200 ways of winning.. But there's also atleast 200 ways of losing the game.. Defenses have actually earned their right to be called DEFENSES in this game.. A line of 10 tech1 point defenses and you've got VERY good defensive line, until bombers arrive.. How to win in C&C.. Take the few minutes to build up your tech level and then just pump out Mammoth tanks and build an Ion Cannon and add a few jeeps to take care of the infantry.. Simple as that.. You'll breeze through defenses.. You've won.. I don't wanna come here and tell every C&C fan here that I think the demo sucked, 'cause it didn't, if I hadn't played SupCom for the last 6 months.. The effects where good and the graphics were fine.. But it's still the same old C&C Generals just prettier.. I used to be a C&C man too, but as the times grew old I just needed more than the same interface, same options on how to win, same small sandbox view of the battle and I turned to SupCom.. A lot might say that SupCom doesn't look good, but that's only because your computer properly can't handle the game at it's finest.. But take a look here -> (I know this guy has a CRAZY rig, but that's what it takes to play with the big boys)And if you tell me that this game doesn't look sweet, then there's something wrong with you.. I'm sure someone is already now making a C&C mod for the SupCom engine, which is gonna put all C&C units, present and past into the game and when that one comes out.. I don't wanna see any of you guys turning to it and saying it's awesome, 'cause it'll still be SupCom.. Just a different look.. Deal..? Good.. I'm buying C&C no doubt for the storyline and everything, so again I wanna say I really like the C&C universe, it just had it's turn.. Some nice little effects but I think C&C 3 may edge SupCom in this department. The effects ARE better in C&C3, but I wouldn't count on C&C having a better nuke.. But luckily effects can be modded into SupCom.. ps. so far the AI really do suck, but play against 4 Horde AIs teamed up and you got a pretty good challenge.. Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted March 12, 2007 my computer doesn't even meet min spec... : ( but if what King said was true then the game doesn't sound all that fun it sounds more like a race to get nukes if the nukes are that powerful all you need is a couple and you have won the game Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 12, 2007 Not really. Once the tech is high enough it turns into a Rise of nations style "you can't nuke me" thing. I played a game on hard the other day, and before being wiped out by their nuke and a huge force, my own nuke failed to hit it's target. It just flew across the base like it didn't know where it was going. So Nukes aren't an endgame thing. Unless you can launch them before they get the anti-missile scrambler up in their base. HighFlyer15 0 Posted March 14, 2007 Nukes are from game enders.. If you have just one anti-nuke missile defense, which shoots the nuke down with an anti-nuke missile, then you're homefree.. And even if you get nuked, then you can still rebuild and win the game.. I watched a game the other day where a guy got his whole homebase destroyed by a nuke, he came back and killed the other commander(3 player FFA) but then lost to the other commander, which send a ton of Czars, GCs and subs at him.. That was a cool game and it shows how nothing in the game is a definite game-ender.. Not even the Mavor is a game ender.. It's certain a tough mother to get destroyed when it's up, but if you have more than one homebase, then you've got plenty of time and obviously resources to get it taking down.. But the nukes are the strongest nukes I've seen in any game and for that reason alone is SupCom better than most RTS games imo.. Finally there's a weapon that hurts in a RTS..
