What's in your Rig?

Recommended Posts

When's it coming out?

Btw, DD do you have a dell? 'Cause last time I checked Dell was the only one who sold the 7900GS (yes I have it too).

Oh wow! I didn't know that the 9600 was already out.

Very exciting. Yeah man, forget the 8600!

Nice. Have you looked into the benchmarks for the 8600 though? The 7600 was a great card, but apparently the 8600 is a but underwhelming when it comes to performance. You may want to stick with the 7900 for a while, or look into the 8800 GS which you can get for something like 150 USD (pretty remarkable deal when it comes to price/performance).

But yeah, especially when it comes to gaming, Vista can at times be a bit sluggish and unreliable. But you need it for directx10!

I'm still kinda debating on the video card but I'm looking for a good 512MB card for a decent price, that fits my mobo and doesn't need a superbig PSU to run it.

Nope. I have a custom built machine.

I don't think my mobo supports PCI2.0.

PCI-e x16 v2 cards work on v1 mobos. Backwards compatibility ftw. The 9600GT doesn't even take much advantage of pci-e v2 anyways.

It maybe worth calling back the store you bought it from and working something out, sometimes they will. I bitched hard enough to Best Buy one time that they gave me half of what it was dropped by.

I'd worry about the video card first... but if you're going to get a soundcart, get an ASUS Xonar DX, Creative is sucking at the moment (then again, they have been for a while...)

Ouch, then you'll probably not be able to get a very good video card either :P

Why do you need Vista Business on a gaming machine? Vista Home Premium or Ultimate would be a logical choice wouldn't?

Actually Home Premium is all that's really needed.

It was a freebie from my Dad -- he won it at a prize draw in a Microsoft conference and had no use for it :)

I actually prefer Business to all the other Vista editions. It's the closest to XP Professional, and I don't need any of the "personal" stuff in Home Premium or Ultimate.
