Malevolence 6 Posted December 25, 2010 2011 is round the corner, and I just remembered that Intel is releasing a replacement for the current X58 (LGA1366) stuff, i.e. X68 (LGA2011). Damn, I really feel like selling my current rig parts off to make way for the new one, $$$... crap. Control the temptation, control the temptation!!! Share this post Link to post

Luk3us 63 Posted January 23, 2011 That's a fairly chucky case you got there. Useful if you have to drop it on a burglars head. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 290 Posted January 23, 2011 One hard drive? FAIL! Depends on your needs. Not only do I only have one hard drive, it's only 400GB. And yet I have no fear of running out of space, my computer is several years old and I still have 175GB free. Share this post Link to post
Wee_Ooh 0 Posted January 24, 2011 That's a fairly chucky case you got there. Useful if you have to drop it on a burglars head. Ha, yeah, I may have overdone it a little, huh? >_> Oh well, it stays nice and cool. One hard drive? FAIL! Pft, that's way more than enough. I have almost every game I own installed, and I'm only using about a quarter of it. XD Share this post Link to post

Doctor Destiny 41 Posted February 17, 2011 New processor incoming. Just waiting on the cooler to come in so I can install it along with my new surge protector. Also got new parts incoming to rebuild my XP box. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted March 23, 2011 I just bought this today. Alienware M15x With: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 @2.20ghz 4 Gigs of RAM GeForce 8700M GT (1.7GB) I figure those are the only three things you really need to know. But yeah. I only got it for 500 dollars. That's the kicker. Share this post Link to post

Guest Stevie_K Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) One hard drive? FAIL! Fewer means more space in the cabinet, less heat and more speed. Can't see what's a failure about having one hard drive if it suits your needs. EDIT: lol replying to an old post. Don't know why but sometimes when I click the thread I end up in the middle of everything and forget to look at post dates. Edited March 23, 2011 by Stevie_K Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 24, 2011 One HDD also means in the event of an HDD failing, you lose everything. Plus everyone should have an SSD, or so I'm told. Personally bit pricey for what you get, but still, speed is key! Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 24, 2011 Fewer means more space in the cabinet, less heat and more speed. I have five hard drives in my case and not a single one is ever above 34C. Besides, I have a lot more speed than you do. Not just a solid state drive, but a split page file. Something you caaaaaaaaaaan't dooooooooooooooo! Heretofore, you can suck on that. Fiesta 0 Posted September 30, 2011 (edited) QUOTE (zocom7 @ Saturday 13th August 2011 10:58 PM) Rig 3: Case/PSU: Custom midsize tower with power @ 300W Motherboard: ECS CPU & Cooler: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.8 ghz (can be overclocked to 3.4 ghz) RAM: 2GB DDR PC2700 RAM Video: EVGA GeForce 6200 LT @ 256MB DDR2 HDD1: Western Digital 80GB HDD2: Maxtor DiamondMax 40GB (backup only) Optical: Sony 18x CD/DVD Burner, Sony 52x CD-ROM Sound: Sound Blaster Live! Value (separate) Display: HP 19" widescreen LCD monitor Speakers: NEC 2-channel stereo speakers Input: NEC keyboard and Lenovo mouse OS: Windows XP Pro It may not look nice but I was thinking of retiring this "last resort" rig with the exception of that LCD monitor. I was hoping to move my Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium and the EVGA GeForce GT 220 into my fastest rig soon. My oldest rig has those speakers, they're actually sorta decent for how old they are. Anyway I just realized I haven't posted in this thread for a while so I'll show off what I have now: Dell U2410 rev.A02 (if you have one with a slide-out tag showing a newer revision, that only indicates a change in the manufacturing process/location; rev.A03 is made in Korea, rev.A04 is made in Mexico, and rev.A05 is made in the Czech Republic. I might have 3 and 4 mixed up but it's majorly correct.) Logitech G500 (was using this on an Xtrac Pads Ripper but the sensor freaks the hell out on it for some reason so I had to stop) Ducky DK-9008 mechanical keyboard (Cherry MX Brown switches) + Ideazon FANG gamepad (bought before Steelseries took over the company) Swan D1080MKII08 speakers Logitech analog headset and C600 webcam (would have gotten a Microsoft Lifecam Studio but they didn't have any) Same case as before, cooling supplemented by a Panaflo U1BX rear exhaust fan, Scythe S-Flex G bottom intake fan, and 2 Panaflo H1BXes for front intake assist. These fans plus the San Ace on the Hammer are controlled by the Sunbeam Rheobus at the front. Foxconn Blood Rage X58 + Core i7 920 + 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator 1600MHz @ 8-8-8-24 Xigmatek Thor's Hammer CPU cooler + Sanyo Denki San Ace 9G1212H1011 Same sound card and graphics as before, I plan to upgrade to the next best upper-midrange nVidia card, or a Radeon 7970 if that doesn't turn out well as a product Seagate 250GB 7200.12 boot drive + 7200.11 640GB and 7200.12 1TB storage drives; I intend later to knock the boot drive up to either a Samsung SSD830 (already reviewed @Anandtech) or an Intel 520 (reviewed, but publishers are under NDA for a few more weeks and so cannot put the reviews up yet) Corsair HX850 power supply; for efficiency and cosmetic purposes I intend to upgrade this later to a planned series of revisions to Antec's high-end power supplies, which will have MUCH better modular cabling than before Samsung DVD burner, don't care to remember the model Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 (will be Ultimate when I get the SSD) Those that remember, I was using a G.Skill Falcon 64GB SSD a while ago, however it bricked itself after some sectors became corrupted, likely as a result of suffering multiple brownouts, no thanks to our power company. No worries about that anymore, though, now have a CyberPower 700w UPS, which has lead-acid batteries; this makes it incredibly heavy for its size but the batteries are quite cheap and easy to replace. Also visible at the top of the desk is a throw blanket; I might need it in a week, today our high is in the mid-80s, this is the last summer-like weekend for us; next week we're right under an upper trough pulling north-Pacific moisture, cooling our high temps down to the mid-upper 50s and putting lows near freezing. So yeah, I might need that throw blanket until it cools down even further so as to justify banging on that thermostat there to turn the gas fireplace on. Malevolence 6 Posted September 30, 2011 Love that Dell U2410 monitor! Planning to get 3 of those but will do so when I do my next upgrade. Didn't know about the new revisions? Where do I find more info on these revisions? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted September 30, 2011 Those that remember, I was using a G.Skill Falcon 64GB SSD a while ago, however it bricked itself after some sectors became corrupted, likely as a result of suffering multiple brownouts, no thanks to our power company. No worries about that anymore, though, now have a Cyberlink 700w UPS, which has lead-acid batteries; this makes it incredibly heavy for its size but the batteries are quite cheap and easy to replace. Ouch, that must have sucked, I've never been able to convince myself to purchase a UPS it always seemed excessive to me. My little surge protector is all I've got. Share this post Link to post
