S.T.A.L.K.E.R is in trouble already!

Recommended Posts

from what was said in the article it seemed id Software didn't care much or let them use the assets and didn't want it know publicly but if what was said is true then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is busted, i wonder what kind of lawsuit is coming out of this one :)

Apparently it involves Valve as well as id Software. Assets taken from Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 etc...

I've played through some of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and I didn't notice anything remotely familiar from Half-Life 2 and Doom 3.

As the pic below shows you have dig through the files that make up the game to notice anything.....

In the end I think most people don't give a ****.

So you don't mind if people take pieces of CNCNZ and use them even if you don't really notice them?

If it's someone else's property, it's not free game to use it in their own.

I couldn't care less about them stealing certain files...I'm sure most games do it. It wouldn't stop me buying it except now the game may loose all support and therefore no patches.

Of course I mind. I've gone to great lengths to ensure that all of content/features remain on this site alone. But that's not what we are discussing here.

What mean is most people who have purchased S.T.A.L.K.E.R probably don't care, most probably don't even know about this news.

Nor should it matter to them. But what I said early is the same. If some of webmaster (game dev) stole another one's content, I'd feel pretty ****ty and want action.

The players don't give a **** as long as they have fun with the game, but the game company in all rights has the right to be pissed.

edit: Ah, if you thought I was talkin consumer stuff then no. Only way it'd affect them is if iD and Valve took them to court and ordered the game to be taken off the shelves.

Well if they weren't permitted to take the files, then im pretty sure they'll be taken to court...and if they're taken to court they probably wont be able to afford to continue support for the game.

STALKER not nicking art after all

Internet goes wild for nuttin'

By Wily Ferret: Monday 16 April 2007, 11:30

SO IT TURNS OUT that STALKER isn't actually nicking lots of other people's artwork. Big surprise?

The internet was a-storm over the weekend with rumours that textures had been found in STALKER's game engine that looked similar to textures found in Half-Life 2 and Doom 3. We previously reported the rumours.

Thanks to reader Rob S. for pointing out that the water textures used by both Valve and GSC GameWorld, the makers of STALKER, come from a texture pack sold by Marlin Studios. The chaps at Marlin make all kinds of exciting textures, including 'Home & Office Furniture - High Detail, Low Price!' and 'Traffic - Low Poly Pretextured Vehicles, SUVs and trucks you can even animate!'

Stunning stuff.

Valve has confirmed that it picked up some textures from Marlin for HL2, and separate sources have discovered that the IMP_Light texture that it was thought could have been pilfered from Doom 3 was, in fact, just a standard Impact Light texture, rather than referring to the Doom 3 monster.
