Recommended Posts

I'm interested in creating a mod for Ra2 Yr. Which programs do I need? If there are some tutorials I would like them to.

OK first off theres XCC editor pack with a few programs

XCC editor can extract stuff out of RA2 files like Voxel (tanks, planes etc) SHPs (troops and most animations) and INIs (coding etc)

the other programs are more when you want to make a launcher for your mod

Thanks, SS

EDIT: How did you learn to edit? Which is the easiest way to learn?

I learned on my own, only asking questions when I was truly stumped. Just use the INI files themselves, read comments in those files, read tutorials and, above all, experiment. Start simple and work your way up from there.

[EDIT] If you have MSN/AIM, I'll gladly answer more questions over IM. ;)

I would be glad for any help, just don't know were to start. But I'm rather busy right now, but I can pm my msn someday when I have more time. I'm thankfull for any help.

When I first became interested in making my own mods, I collected other people's mods and read what changes they had made in ini. By veiwing their examples, I could alter their codes to make my own things. It was a fairly crude beginning, but I think it was easier to understand what I was getting into rather than jumping in so deep I had no idea where I was.

You can't become a master modder overnight and downloading everything that exists at once will only prove chaotic.

trial and error is hard and some times boring but it can help u understand alot more and if u go wrong try another way thats kinda how i started

Trial and error is a bitch, plain and simple. I did a lot of research back in the day and read up on a lot of things and figured out a lot on my own, as well. Now, everyone has 6 years worth of knowledge on the game so it's not hard to learn this stuff.

Trail and error is a pain, but it's a brilliant way to learn. You do something, you get an IE... so you play around with it until you don't get an IE.

At least, that's how I work. :D

Of course, I've been modding for a little while now, so I can generally tell when something isn't going to work properly.
