Do EA have their priorities right?

Recommended Posts

I found this "news post" at CNC Series http://www.cncseries.com/news/?365 and I use that term loosely because its not news, more of a rant. But anyway does anyone agree with what was said.....

A quick glance at the official forums and it doesn't take long to notice that there are an extremely large number of disgruntled fans.

Why? Because EA has made a horrible mess of Tiberium Wars and is also failing to explain that mess. It really is that simple; the game was rushed otherwise there would not be so many bugs.

The bad thing is, there are bugs absolutely everywhere. Gameplay, connection, lobby screens, missions, exploits - just too many. Sure, people expect games to have a few bugs when they come out - but not to the extent that EA has.

What really pisses me off is the number of customers who have posted their problems in the EA support forums but have received absolutely no replies; are EA even reading their own forums? Why create a technical forum to allow fans to post their problems if you are not even going to bother replying?

Perhaps the problem is manpower, or perhaps it is misguided use of resources. When I see the official website making posts about this ridiculous 'Operation Rescue Apoc' I get extremely annoyed - hell, the guy has basically returned to work from a holiday. Instead of making podcasts, graphics and news posts about it do something useful and sustainable - spend the time answering customers problems and working on fixing them.

The online aspect of Tiberium Wars is an utter shambles of farcical proportions. The majority of gamers these days buy games to play online, so to spend £30 of our own money on a game to only have it not work is ridiculous.

This problem is further exacerbated by EA expecting everybody to change hundreds of port settings in order to get the game to work. Not only is this stupid in that it can leave your network open to the outside, is it extremely stupid in that EA expects every customer of its game to have the technical expertise to do so. What happened to kids and people buying games which they could just put into their computer and have fun on?

EA have killed the fun for many people who have bought the game. I hope to hell they wake up and realise that their fans need reassuring, otherwise they risk losing an awful lot of them.

So yeah the game has some nasty bugs, none which have effected me. Have EA killed the fun for you?

Well the only bug I have came across is Command and Conquer 3 Online not liking my router. Everytime I wanna play online I have to connect the computer directly to the Modem. other then that, I have seen no other bugs.

I think that everyone just has this negative vib over EA because they took over westwood and are "attempting" to continue a story that made westwood so popular.

Know what, it was a business transaction, plain and simple, EA had the money, and took the advantage, like it or not, Its now EA's choice what to say and do with the game. Westwood is no longer in the picture.

You wanna play a modern westwood game, Go play Star Wars Empire at War. you got most of the Staff over at Petro-Glyph.

And yes, EA is known for rushing there productions. look at Renegade as a prime example. There was so much stuff not done that we never saw. Maps are a bg one, Aircraftkiller finished alot of maps that WW/EA were sopposed to realease but never did (and yes its Aircraftkiller not ACK) i got my butt reamed out on that once by him :-P

anyway. Gameplay is still there, Get used to right click, it lets you do more with the game at a time. But i guess no one else notices that since right click controls the units, left click controls the buildings and special weapons that they dont have to reselect there units if they need to build somethign quick ot place a building, or shoot off there nuke.

before when everythign was left click you had to always reselect all your units with you didnt have them is group with CTRL+1, 2, 3, 4, and so on...

The game plays fine, right click, yes it was annoying to learn but now I understand it and have the hang of it. Story, I enjoyed it, Expecially seeing Dr. House's assistant as "EVA" :-) (dont ask)

only problem I have is caused by my router. and if you have a linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router, Guess what, ITS NOT EA, ITS NOT CNC3, ITS YOUR ROUTER!!!

know what, im done ranting...

no one cares anyway, just play the game and have fun. Tired of everyone tank spamming, go play different game. Red Alert, MAMMY RUSH, or MED RUSH, Tib Sun, Cyborg Reaper rush or Titans, Gen, ZH, Paladin tank rush, Emperor tank, or Muradur tank rush, RA2, Apocolyps tank with Iron Curtain rush, or Chronoshift 9 Prismtanks into base...

all games had a set way to win. why would spamming scorpians or planatary assult carriers or mammys be any differrent?

This post is pretty hopeless. I mean, what game company will handle all support requests posted on their forums? Most people don't even know how to use search anyway.

And about the problems, the real problems are all occuring in multiplayer/online. You can play single-player, the entire game, just fine. The only glaring 'bugs' I have found:

- harvesters can get stuck.

- in the first Scrin mission, units can fall through one of the bridges and get stuck.

I'd say, bring good arguments next time. Like comment on timelines of upcoming things:

- early April->3rd week of April (Worldbuilder),

- end of April -> middle of May (big balance patch),

- ??? -> ??? (Mod SDK)

honestly I'm upset I bought the game and now I have wait for them to change it with this balance patch. I wished EA would of taken their time put the smalls things in like westwood did with creatures the tiberium gases being able to take old cnc units, and umm even get civilians cars. I wish their was more mutants and side stories as well. I felt like it misses stuff about the gap from TS to TW

If you listened to the recent podcast Mike Verdu basically admitted they messed up the launch of C&C 3 and should have had a more in depth beta test.

So we basically have one of the men in charge at EALA taking the blame for all problems. People are quick to forget that EA have worked their asses off pumping out the first 4 patches and making various other fixes to the online part of the game, their support has been great.... roll back to the Generals days and it was shocking. Even APOC would probably admit that.

True I was impressed with how fast those patches went out. I quoted you sonic and put this thread on EA support forums people thier had a mixed a reaction. A lot of people are feeling like it's not EA fault. However some do I feel maybe EA should of released this game in May like the 360 verison because that one seems to look better by seeing the Xbox live game on that video.

A later release would not have solved the online problems. They only showed up after release, with a lot of users.
