Has anyone heard of World Domination?

Recommended Posts

I was doing a little surfing, and came across a reference that I thought was really interesting in the C&C3 FAQ on gamereplays.org:

9. World Domination

9.1 - What is known about this mode? *UPDATED*

Picture a C&C version of BFME 2's War of the Ring. It's probably going to be a turn-based Risk style meta game just as War of the Ring was. Though it's likely that it will recieve vast improvements to both strategic and tactical depth.

Quote from Mike Verdu: We're going to let you build structures and armies, move your forces, and attack territories on a high level map of the world. You'll resolve conflicts over territory in RTS battles and be able to take your forces from the world map into battle with you - and what happens during the battle will affect the world map as well. This mode allows you to create your own campaign game.

Now, after searching around a little more, I wasn't really able to find any other references to it. My assumption is that this mode was scrapped prior to final release, but it still was exciting to read about. Does anyone know anything further about this?

BTW - Here's the link: Gamereplays.org C&C3 FAQ

Okay, I found another reference, albiet this one looks to be from way before C&C3 was even released:

What really excites is the battle flow in the single-player war and the metagame, World Domination. The single-player campaign will have you going through a full story, jumping between the GDI (Global Defense Initiative, aka the good guys) and the Brotherhood of Nod (the bad guys) as you please, getting two perspectives of the same battles. You also choose the theater of war. Let's say, for example, you're raiding the Eastern Seaboard. Do you take out a seaport or an airport? You can cut off enemy supply lines or air superiority in future battles. The World Domination mode turns the entire globe into a living, persistent battlefield. The enemy is always advancing, and what you build on the world map follows you into each fight.

And this one:

Can you tell me more about this World Domination thingy?

As said earlier, the World Domination mode was inspired by the War of the Ring mode in BfME 2, but it should offer a lot deeper experience. Basically, it's a special campaign where you're in control of a big strategic map over the Earth and where players make their decisions in turns. These decisions can result in battles that are played in regular RTS mode. The objective is to conquer as many territories as possible. Like in a game of Risk, owning entire regions will earn significant bonuses.

Now, this sounds like a really cool idea, especially in a massive multiplayer setting. What happened to it?

Or... Is it there, and I'm just saying something that everyone already knows...? Either way, it'd be good to know.
