LCD Monitors

Recommended Posts

Just recently my SAMSUNG Syncmaster 913v monitor stopped displaying at high res... I'm stuck way down at 1024x768 which is just... painful. It seems to be the monitor (not the card) as I've tested on another comp... unless anyone has any other suggestions to test.

Anyhoot - does anyone have any suggestions for a new one?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a 22" widescreen which I seem to be able to get for under $400.

The local shop has Acer, Asus, BenQ, LG, Samsung & Viewsonic.

Any brands to avoid at all costs?

Hmm just realised there is no Sony...

(and no it's not for gaming.)

EDIT:

Very anti-climatic ending to my issue. I rang samsung and after 30mins on hold, I discovered that they will replace the faulty monitor even thought I bought it in 2005. So free is preferred over better monitor unfortunately! I was kinda looking forward to being forced to pick a new one!

Q. What's a downward usb stream used for anyway???

I wouldn't recommend Acer. Id rather say you should try and avoid.

LG and Samsung on the other hand is the best in my opinion. I know they usually cost a little more, but they are usually worth it too.

Eh, LCD screens all seem the same to me, just got get to get the one that looks "the best". My Dell one is really cool. :D Pitty the powerbutton broke, so I can't turn it off any more, unless I want to stick a screwdriver in there to turn it back on. :P

I believe you mean downward compatible. Which just means it supports the older 1.1 thingey.

That's nice of them to replace it when it out of warranty. Get yourself a new one. Take the replacement from Samsung and sell it.

For LCD monitors is not really about the brand, its who makes the actual LCD panel that counts. I've always purchased Philips monitors over the past few years and never had any problems. With that said I would still avoid the cheap brands though.

That USB thing, Luk3us is correct, its just backward compatible with USB 1.1. It a waste of time having a USB port on the monitor anyway, some of them are limited to low power devices being plugged in. And you don't really gain an extra USB from it. You have to run a USB cable from the rear of the monitor to a USB socket on the computer. Its more of a convenience thing and marketing thing.
