So who is buying into the hype of Grand Theft Auto 4 and getting either the Xbox 360 or PS3 version?

I'll wait till it comes out on PC, assuming it ever does. :(

Preordered for next Tuesday on my PS3.. the independent games shop is opening at midnight for pre-orders.... And since I live all but less than 100 yards from the shop, I can just walk out my door, around to the front and pick it up all in good time... All Depends if I'm working Wednesday! :P

Hype?! This game will be awsome, and I loathed SA with all my heart! Unfoirtunately, I have to wait for the PC version...

I don't see what the big deal is about GTA anyway. Early last year I picked up copies of Vice City and San Andreas on PS2 for next to nothing, I thought they were really boring and I could never really get into them at all. So I suspect GTA4 is just more of the same, but with flashier graphics.

So yeah Hagren, there is huge hype over GTA4.

There will be alot of improvements to the Grand Theft Auto gameplay, which will make it more realistic and definitely fun. Its all in the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_IV#Gameplay_2

So they say that about every new game, doesn't mean its true. :P

But as long as I can run around shooting people and stealing cars, I'll be happy. :)

Ah screw it!!, I'm heading out tomorrow and buying GTA4. I haven't purchased an Xbox 360 game since Halo 3 last September, and for the past couple of months my 360 hasn't been used. So once again I will buy into the hype and hand over my hard earned dollars for the latest and greatest. Assuming it hasn't sold out everywhere.

Seriously speaking though, from the reviews and general talk on various gaming forums GTA4 does apparently live up to the huge hype surrounding it.

Sadly, I won't be able to join in the Grand Theft Auto fun. Neither do I think my friends will cause they don't have either PS3 or Xbox360.

It certainly does live up to its hype... The atmosphere, the story, the voice acting.... The Realism!

It's all there in one huge dose, and from what I've played so far, this is undoubtedly the best one yet by miles!

I laugh at everyone who hasn't pre-ordered in the UK.... There's an estimated 2-3 week backlog cos demand is so high... some pre-order customers are having to wait another week or so to get theirs. It is apparently estimated that all the UK stock brought in from the 1st initial shipment has completely sold out today! So it's possible that some people who have not pre-ordered will have to wait up to 20th May in their area to grab a copy!

But yeah... this game is expected to make a minimum of over $400 million worldwide this week alone! Making it the biggest multi-media release of all time eclipsing the likes of Halo 3 ($375 million) and some other movie cinema release ($404 million)... We will see by next week if they have managed it..

Sonic: I was caught up by the hype as well, I must admit  And while you decided to buy it, I'm really not that much interested anymore. I know that the game will be excellent at the beginning, and I'll lose interest due to the mission design, scope and immorality/"Matureness" after a while.

When you take into account that its being released on both 360 and PS3 it may just eclipse that mark set by Halo 3, which as we all know is exclusively a 360 game. From what I can tell the 360 GTA4 is more popular in than the PS3 version here in NZ. While I don't have figures, if you goto http://www.gpstore.co.nz (NZ gaming store), scroll down to the Top Sellers list and see it for yourself. Stock of the 360 version was sold out, http://www.gpstore.co.nz/News/Archive/8979.html.

That happens in any game, the novelty soon fades.

The UK sell out of GTA 4 had some rather interesting turns yesterday:

A HOODIE queuing to buy violent video game Grand Theft Auto IV STABBED a passer-by who taunted him.

The victim, 23, was knifed four times with an eight-inch hunting blade.

He’d made a rude remark to gamers outside the store just before the game’s midnight launch yesterday.

Stunned witnesses thought it was a STUNT laid on by the developers of the 18-rated game – until cops arrived.

Marcus Henderson, 24, said: “It was like a scene straight from the game itself.”

Malcolm Critchell, 22 – one of 100 people queuing outside Gamestation in Croydon, South London – said: “The victim was covered in blood and had cuts all over him and a huge gash on his back.

"I thought he was promoting the game. Then the police turned up.”

The lad later left hospital refusing to make a complaint.

Meanwhile, muggers broke an 18-year-old’s jaw and nose as they stole his £40 copy of the game in Leyland, Lancs.

GTA IV – featuring casual violence and drug dealing – sold out within hours of going on sale across the UK.

Here we go... Soon enough they'll wanna ban GTA 4 because of these so-called Isolated incidents!

Ban the game then, I've got my copy now ;)

Has anyone here splashed the extra cash for the special edition?

I have, and it was worth it. The duffel bag is small, but sturdy. The lock box is a bit flimsy in the lock area, but still passable. As for the other contents, I haven't looked at them much yet.

I ended up going out and buying the game the other day even though i was no big fan of the GTA series. It has turned out to be much better than i expected and so much better than the previous titles.

Ill ask my question here as well: Is the game at points still frustrating and annoying due to unfair scripts, bugs and and overall high difficulty level?
