I enjoyed talking to and emailing this guy. Definitely a shame to see him go this early.

No LAN or Dedicated Server Support for C&C 4
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I think I've played LAN and multiplayer the same amount of times for the RTS genre. Ah well, I probably wasn't going to get this anyway. It's like everything we knew and loved about C&C has been thrown away and replaced with a DOW2 copy. -
Get Your Command & Conquer Freeware!
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Tiberian Sun's storyline, cutscenes, CG scenes, and environment was definitely the best in any Command & Conquer game. The move to make it freeware is definitely a great idea. -

Command & Conquer: The Motion Comic Teaser Trailer
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
The problem isn't the fact that it's a teaser, I think most of us understand that a teaser is put out to get people excited. All I'm saying is, it's near impossible to come to a substantive opinion concerning the art style of this series. Teasers should get people to say "Wow!", but this one just didn't do it for me. It's basically one image with not much in it. Anyway, good luck with the series, I do intend on watching it once it's up. -
Command & Conquer: The Motion Comic Teaser Trailer
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I'm really worried as to where this series is going. I miss the C&C3 days, where the biggest problems were merely balance issues and story plot holes. Now we have to worry about C&C4, which plays and looks nothing like a Command & Conquer game, and lacks the strategy involved in resource gathering, base building, powerplants, mass attacks with multiple types of forces, and is overall just way too linear and dull. The game is in no way an improvement over C&C3 - not even graphically. And then it doesn't get much better - the EALA team is being replaced, so I wouldn't be surprised if support for C&C4 is just dropped with the new team. Many much needed patches won't be made for the people that actually do like the game, and instead we have to deal with a new team that probably knows nothing about the series. Hell, they've already talked about broadening the series and eliminating C&C's RTS formula. Frankly I don't think a novel or comic is a bad idea. They can be an excellent way of expanding the C&C universe. What worries me is the direction the C&C universe is heading, both in story and gameplay now, and how more media can simply mean more ways they can ruin this for us. Again, I'm not opposed to change and expansion, but I am opposed to the new direction. -

I understand that Teasers aren't supposed to give much away, but we basically just had a guy in his car and half a sentence. -

Definitely the worst trailer I've ever seen. Not saying the idea is bad, but this trailer was really meh. -
Playfish Working on a "Well-Known EA Brand"?

Sounds kinda like a social version of "the Sims" if you ask me - wasn't that series changing hands as a result of the new EA economic plan? -

New Poll: How Will You Be Purchasing C&C 4?
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I would get the physical retail box, but I'm not buying the game. -
Actually he does look a lot like the original Havoc: Though whenever you make a character, you always make him expressionless. That way, when we animate facial expressions in the future, it's easier to work with.

EA CEO John Riccitiello Talks About Future of C&C/EA RTS

I am totally up for innovation, I just don't have a good feeling about what they think is good innovation. We'll see, yeah, but none of what they've been saying lately is "good news" to me. -
EA CEO John Riccitiello Talks About Future of C&C/EA RTS
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Troopzor's topic in Command & Conquer News
That would be the end of the series for me From what they've been saying, I have a feeling C&C's going to become either a mobile platform game (Iphones, etc.) or an MMO RTS, where you pay for extra things. -

Command & Conquer 4 Beta Gameplay Video

It is fast in the sense that the movement of units is generally quick. It is slow in the sense that it takes too long to kill something. -
Command & Conquer 4 Beta Gameplay Video
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I think the gameplay is way too slow and not strategic enough. You've got 15 tanks shooting at 1 infantry dude at the 22 second mark for about 15 seconds. If it takes that long to kill one thing with that many vehicles, I can only imagine how long bigger battles will actually take. That eliminates the possibility of surprise attacks, because the enemy could just bring units from the other side of the map to join in the battle. That also means all of your units will probably have to travel together to actually have an effect. The mix between the population cap and a lot of armour on all units just makes everything so much slower and linear. If C&C4 is only getting one multiplayer game mode (KOTH-styled RTS) then I can only see two real gameplay possibilities here: 1) Large, slow paced battles 2) Taking empty control nodes that the enemy is not protecting Then of course I've yet to see Tiberium anywhere in this game. Is that a Tiberium crystal being dropped off by a space elevator? :S I don't see why they've got rid of the entire resource system. I don't see this game changing in the next 3-4 months, but if the gameplay stays the way it is, I will probably not be buying this game. -
