LAN Problem - Please Help

Recommended Posts

Hi

Am trying to play Yuri against my son on our network but can't get it to work - can anyone help?

Player 1 PC is running on XP Pro

Player 2 PC is on Win 98

Network is up and running with full functionality between PC's including vile sharing etc - in fact everything other than Yuri.

Both players are visible in the Lobby

But if Player 1 selects "New" he disappears from player 2's screen and no game appears

If Player 2 selects "New" the game appears on Player 1's screen for about three seconds then both the game and Player 2 disappear.

If whilst Player 1's game is visible Player 2 selects "Join" a short delay is followed by the message "Request denied"

So as you can see there is some visibility across the network right up until the point when an attempt is made to create a game.

Anyone got any clues?

I couldn't play multiplayer games with Red Alert 95. I found the problem. As both RA95 and RA2 use the IPX protocol. Everything else works, like file sharing, because it uses the TCP/IP protocol (I think). Here, I'll quote myself from my last post in my topic:

-----

I found the problem for network playing, at least. I had attributed the same network number for both computers, assuming it meant a network name. While chatting, the program repeated everything we said like we were talking to ourselves. I then changed the network number of one of my 2 computers, and it works!

No need for TCP/IP or a virtual serial to play a LAN game in XP.

Just attribute a network number. control panel -- network -- (your connection to network) -- Properties -- select IPX protocol -- Properties. Just change your Internal network number for something else than 00000000. If you didn't understand, sorry. I use the french version of windows XP.

I can finally play a LAN with my brother. Haven't tried it online yet, like on Gamespy Arcade.

I hope that helped. I'm really not an expert with computers, But I have resolved number of my problems myself.
