How to make your Internet Connection Faster

Recommended Posts

No this is not a guide to get faster Internet speeds, but if you made your own network cables make sure that your RJ45 plugs are wired correctly and that they are actually sending the signals.

For the past few months I've had really **** upload speeds, turns out that a small 20cm Cat6 patch cable that runs from a small panel of sockets in the other room to the back of router caused the major lag when I tried uploading files, new cable installed and I can upload large files with out it the connection timing out and dieing.

So why did I put up with it for all these months and not check my cables sooner. Well sometimes it actually worked fine, which made me think it was **** service from my ISP.

After all this time my internet connection works great, well as good as we can get here in New Zealand anyway.....

Xtra Broadband - 3.5Mbp Download / 512Kbps Upload:

xtraspeedtest280420069os.jpg

Download Speed: 3389 kbps (423.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 501 kbps (62.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

This has also saved me from phoning up my ISP for a bitch session, because in this case it was my problem. I would have looked like fool if I made the call

So Sonic you're not having any issues with you're connection? I've heard lots of my mates having issues due to Telecom's ****ty contention rates and stuff....

I get broadband next week, finally I should say. Yaa.... :) Slingshot FTW! :D

No problems for me, my DSL runs perfectly. The price is a bit steep though but I wanted the faster upload so its $20 more per month, then I decided to get the larger data cap (20GB instead of 10GB) so its another $20. All up $99 per month for my broadband.

I've read lots of horror stories on other NZ based forums about people in different parts of country suffering from slow **** speeds, it sucks but I really don't care in the end. But the story is Telecom's contention ratios per exchange are extremely high, something 148:1, and most exchanges are oversold and overloaded.

Luk3us, have signed you on for Slingshot already? I would gone and sold my soul to devil and used Xtra (like I do) or checked out Ihug's plans. I have my doubts about Slingshot.

I've been with Slingshot for years now, even back in the day with i4free... In the end it comes down to cost for me, being a student with a very loose part time job, yeah its kidna hard... :( Specially with out a stupid student loan... Besides 5GB per month at 2mb isn't bad I feel. ;) For the moment at least. :)
