Open world RTS The Imperial Realm::Miranda first Teaser Trailer
TheImperialRealm replied to TheImperialRealm's topic in Gaming Discussion
Thanks for the feedback. Art is a huge challenge when you're not an artist yourself. I do the best I can with the art I buy, any deficits in the final results are my doing. I had to make a lot of hard choices about the art early on. For example, there are no people in the game because animating them is so difficult, and I knew I wouldn't be able to do it well, so the roles traditionally carried out by "little men" are all handled by 4 wheel ATV's in Miranda. -

What gives you that impression? (That's helpful feedback.) Miranda is a playable multiplayer game with tank battles, explosions, map, shroud, lots of different units, a giant world, and more. -
Open world RTS The Imperial Realm::Miranda first Teaser Trailer

What are the rules for self-promotional posts here? The rules don't really say anything about it. I have a teaser trailer for the open world RTS I'm developing that I think people would be interested in but I don't want to get banned. Here's the trailer and some information on the game. The Imperial Realm::Miranda is the first seamless open-world real-time strategy game. Build a base and field a fighting force either by yourself, or with your friends, in an all-out war to dominate Miranda, the devastated former capital planet of The Imperial Realm. Secret Lair Games is celebrating Miranda's unprecedented scale and majesty in the first teaser trailer for the game. Secret Lair Games will be holding a free public play test weekend on February 24-26. The test weekend will run from Friday at noon to Sunday at midnight (Pacific time.) Players can sign up for the game's mailing list to take part in the test. Invitations will be emailed on Monday February 20 with a link to retrieve the Secret Lair Code needed to play the game the following weekend. [Targeting an enemy base with a superweapon.] [Place your Base anywhere in Miranda's 300x300KM world.] [Harvester at work collecting resources.] [The aftermath of a fuel-air missile explosion.] We look forward to seeing you on Miranda, Commander. -

Building Miranda has been my main job for 6 years. Nearly done now. I wrote up an answer for your other question here. -

Thanks for the feedback. It is just me working on the game. I wish I could afford a variety of artists but that just isn't in the cards - at least initially. Quite a few of the buildings and vehicles are unique, the pre-made sets don't have enough for everything I need, but I have seen the core sets in other games. I am hoping that the novel gameplay and unique environment will help people overlook whatever artistic deficiencies there are until the game can support additional artistry. -

I don't know what your situation is, but I started making games as a kid with my friends using instructions out of magazines and a borrowed computer. If making games is your dream and you have access to a computer, all the software and knowledge you need is available on the web. -

That clears it all up, thanks. If I end up adding a single player campaign, I'll let you know -

Actually, it isn't that surprising, EA is the biggest game development employer here in Vancouver so nearly everyone who works in games has worked there at one time or another Yes... C&C Generals 2 looks neat, I hadn't heard of that. Miranda has open-world multiplayer, it will have co-op (my favourite way to play Red Alert 2) and I have thought seriously about doing a single player campaign after the core game is done - but I can only do so much at once. What specifically about MMORTS do you find boring? There have been so few I'm always interested to talk to someone who has an opinion on them. Also could you expand on: "optional maps of MOBA and MMO" -
Back when I worked at EA there were a number of us who desperately wanted a new standalone C&C game. We'd play the old games at lunch. Talk multiplayer strategies over coffee. Poke around the company knowledge bases looking for hints of a new game in development. Sadly none of us were the people who make those kind of decisions and eventually I decided to put my money where my mouth is and I left to make my own Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 style RTS: The Imperial Realm::Miranda. It has taken 6 years but the new game I wanted is almost finished. I'm really looking forward to being able to play it over lunch.
