  1. Yes I played generals heaps. The love story with China saving America and Europe is a bit crazy though... it becomes cartoony in my opinion. In real life, there is a disagreement on how to fight ISIS. It's not so much "everyone versus ISIS" but rather, everyone using ISIS to gain political street cred, while secretly, each nation has its own agenda in Syria/Iraq. This is the common theme in geopolitics: nations get into international disputes and claim cooperation, while really it's about self-interest. I laugh at the cynicism! Generals really ought to be more gritty and realistic. The Generals games as they exist, are extremely sanitised, and the GLA unit voices sound like they're dripping with evil. It's cartoony stuff, villains versus heroes. In my opinion, the ideal Generals game would involve a conflict with NATO against Russia and China (though, Russia and China wouldn't be in a happy loving alliance either). It just needs a fictional story, like a rouge part of the CIA stingers a plane or blows something up, inciting a retaliation from China or Russia.

Do you really have to reduce everything to a pattern? That's dry and boring. You should stop analysing everything as if it's a science that has to be explained with patterns. I could explain media propaganda by analysing patterns, but I won't, because that would be boring. Why do you feel the urge to explain other users on a forum, by using patterns? Why is it bad, if everything on a forum is a case of "oh I recently played x" or "I recently watched x movie"? There's nothing garbage about it. If you're suggesting that I'm wrong because I'm often taking a negative position, then that's absurd too. Different perspectives on life, perhaps? While most people are happy playing AAA games and watching Hollywood films, and taking prozac, I am not happy with that. I find fault with organisations, systems, applications, and generally whatever, and I like to express that. I'm not going to shut up or take a pill that reduces sensation, because being critical of things and being pissed off is not an illness, it's natural and necessary. We're in a zombie society where people don't care about anything, or they do care, but only in a contrived scientific way, based on "analysis". Maybe you could read my thread about c++ and SDL configuration, and "analyse" what the problem is with most of the documentation. But don't bother, because I'll write my own documentation and then *gasp* there will be a thread where I take a position position on something (eg. I just read my own website and it was EXCELLENT). Then I'll have a pattern of threads praising my own projects and writing, and I'll have a pattern of kissing my own butt. Then an armchair psychiatrist will tell me that I have a narcissism disorder, because of a "pattern". It won't be long until I stop being nomadic. Yes I seriously do use 7 different IP addresses. Usually only 3. The main library I frequent and 2 or 3 houses that belong to family. I don't have internet where I live, but as soon as I do get internet, I'm going to start writing documentation.

On a gaming forum these days, humour is forbidden and everything is about "being hacked" or "being trolled". Why do gamers have to be such a sarcastic bunch of simpletons? Where are the cool people? Oh yeah there's a game dev meet up this Thursday in my city. I g2g on Thursday night, sorry, gotta go IRL for a change LOL!

Pokemon Go is a horrible idea

People would be better off reading books. Perhaps if everybody read books, they could gather around libraries? At least that wouldn't necessarily involve a screen. I support veterans telling people to f off. I'm sure you read the story about Pokemon Go being played at Auschwitz - how far does acceptable go in your opinion, on this particular topic?
  5. I just tried to, but doing so kills all the paragraphs and makes the document unreadable. Relax, it's called boredom it isn't even a matter of supporting the format, merely allowing the upload of a file that has a .odt extension. I could probably fake the extension and call it a jpg for all I know. Since when was this a matter of you guys taking me seriously? I'm just going to go ahead and mail it regardless of what you think. I post it here just for the hell of it
  6. Even MS Word can open .odt so who the heck makes this forum software lol

I protest! You created a newline character that the compiler will have to strip out
  8. It'll take me forever to come up with anything decent but I'm really pleased with how c++ is going. I made an awfully coded concept program which I plan to extend. The worst aspect of my program is that on some lines I've gone: x = 50; y = 200 Instead of putting them on separate lines. I don't care at this point, but I'll have to make fixes otherwise it's going to frustrate me at a later date. I'm just pleased that I managed to create noob graphics in Graphics Gale Free Edition, then use alpha masking and also put code into multiple files. For a long time I was mystified by simple things like standard libraries, namespaces, and how to declare and define things properly. Now I'm making progress. Not long ago, I couldn't do anything in c++. Many years ago I tried SDL but I got annoyed by an IDE called Anjuta - I had a version where they butchered the features, and I couldn't access the menu which allows library linking. Then I tried compiling via Terminal which wasn't my thing. Net Beans seemed overkill. Years later I'm now settled on Code Blocks IDE. I have come to the conclusion that I really do not like modding. When I was 12 I played a lot of Tiberian Sun mod maps and even messed up rules.ini for fun. In the years since, I never cared about modding. Half the purpose of BZ Redux (Battlezone 98) is mods, it seems. I don't have internet where I live so I can't download them, and I'm not sure if I'd want to. The BZ engine has its limits, and the studio that released BZ Redux said they didn't like the original code, they said it was bad. I really hope they bring back Battle Zone 2, though I also think it's disappointing that some of us still invest hope in code that's 16 years old. Sure, I like the old games, but it'd too weird to think we can extend those long-dead projects forever. Some things just have to die, like the Tiberian and Red Alert universes. A game in which America battles communist Russians is too weird for 2016. We're better off with new intellectual property and new code. Hide Kojima lost his IP but he's about to make new stuff for Playstation - that's how it should be. It's too stupid to keep refreshing old games. I want to make new ones, with new engines. Tonight I'm going to get information on Richard Stallman's licensing and tomorrow I'll slap an extremist copyleft license to my files. Eventually I'll be on source forge. Forget mods, I'll make my own game engine
  9. ISO files are great. Earlier this year I was confused about the language versions they offer. I picked single language version, with "English International" (Great Britain English) but it wouldn't accept my serial number. I installed anyways, and then connected to the internet and suddenly it registered the serial number as legit. I don't understand why they bother with the different language versions, surely just one ISO would do? I don't think dictionaries take up much gig. Perhaps there's more to it. I'm interested in this initiative to offer ISOs - are they trying to get the attention of potentially frustrated and bored Linux users? lol
  10. On controller I don't think it's as enjoyable. If I get another console, I'll sit it on a desk and plug in a mouse and keyboard, and they can add support for it. Microsoft is doing this, merging Xbox with PC (mostly so that they've got us by the balls).

I never liked the idea of these unions, so **** 'em. At least now the UK can make their own decisions!
  12. I didn't know there was a Halo Wars 2. The last one was made by Ensemble amirite? They closed, so this game will be made by a different studio. Sounds good. My 'new' PC has awful specs so I won't be playing any of these new games but I'm sure there will be a following. I played Halo Wars on console but I don't remember anything magical about it, the main thing for me was "aghh RTS on a controller" and also the mission objective to "kill 50 banshees". How do you 'kill' a vehicle if it isn't alive to begin with?

    Programming from scratch vs. mods

I made an update to my program. Movement is now a million times smoother but I need to stop the image from teleporting 32 pixels at a time. It's easy enough to update the actual coordinates, and have the image coordinates slide into place. I did that when I was 15, using Blitz Max. Now it's possible to place bombs with spacebar but they don't yet destroy terrain. This project already has design issues because the alpha-blend part at the top of my wall bitmap is too large, and it looks ugly when I stack walls vertically. Anyway: link.

    Trump v Clinton

lol wut? Bilderberg is for real! They hand-pick the best puppets. If Bilderberg wasn't influential, then how come their guests have to hide their faces with newspaper? Why would they need to keep it hush-hush until just the past 10 years? General Betray-us runs away from a reporter at this year's Bilderberg meeting: *he's being asked if he thinks Hillary should resign from the Democrats.

    Trump v Clinton

I strongly agree with dvs1. Even if folks don't agree with the communist part of dvs1's post, it's easy enough to understand that those who dislike socialism usually associate it with failure. Failure is exactly what a Hitler-ee Clinton government would be. Under the Bilderberg chosen candidates, soon everybody will become dependent on the government: the politicians will hand out foodstamps like cocaine and their customers will get addicted, deny the fact, and keep coming back for more! Although Trump is not accustomed to politics I think he'd be quick to act, and he would fix a crisis even if his stance became contentious to many. Trump is a seemingly-impossible mix: he's pro-business but anti-globalisation in cases where globalisation is bad for America. Killery Hilton is the exact opposite, she's 110% in the globalist banker's pocket and she attended Bilderberg in Virginia back in 2008. She's the New World Order's bitch I want to see team Trump'n'Putin become a thing. If Hillary was president, she'd try to poke the bear and there'd be no cooperation with Russia. We'd all pay for it. Hillary and the other war-hawks would have us all believe that we could win a war against Russia, if that's what it came to. I don't wanna get the Earth nuked so I'd stay the hell away from Hillary.

    Programming from scratch vs. mods

What I mean is I'll never totally stop c++. I will use c# and java for a job but I will never get rusty at c++ (it'll be good for the weekend). Memory allocation is a good thing for power users and I do not know what the licenses are on c# and java. I want to license my stuff to be totally independent. On multiple languages: in the future I might develop an HTML parser with either c or Python. Python has good string handling functions but then again I could write them myself in c. I do worship open source for the sake of it, I've donated money to the FSF before and I've read their publications. Many of the FSF's projects will never happen because nobody cares. It doesn't matter because the FSF is great for the individual programmer. The FSF philosophy encompasses more than mere tools. It's about building a better society. Lofty ideals aside, I like the under dog thing too, FSF is extreme but then again so is DRM - it balances. I've been using a password generator lately, two actually, and one of them outputs too many symbols for my liking. I could modify it if I wanted to which is a great practical thing, but I feel a lot healthier simply knowing it can be modified, whether or not I modify it. I don't read every line of code in the programs I run, but I know that I can do so if I want to. That's good security for me and I do 110% support the FSF's ideas. Recently when using Windows I've got effed off at the need for 3rd party tools for everything - off an unknown website, all proprietary code. Also Firefox plugins are another weird thing I don't like - things like video downloaders... who makes them, and how much $$$ do they make from selling your data to marketing companies? I spent ages looking for an md5 sum program for Windows - in the end I discovered it can be done in Power Shell. I'm not into the binary blob thing. I swear it isn't natural
  18. I'm waiting for Traymen's response now. I paid $200 NZD for a download of the Windows 10 ISO... I didn't buy Windows with my PC. I got the regular Windows 10 because the business versions are pointless to me. I looked at the other version and I don't see why any home user would buy it. By getting a "retail" license as opposed to OEM, I hope I can shift Windows 10 onto my next computer if needed, and just run Linux on the old system (once it becomes old).

    Programming from scratch vs. mods

Visual Studio is very good but 99% of the features I wouldn't use unless I was doing a commercial application or study. It's worth learning both sides I reckon (commercial software packages but also opensource/libre software). c++ is a great language I'd never stop using c++ and move to c# and java. Imagine only being able to write applications with one set of tools hence why: "Code Blocks FTW!!!!" I might play a mod once or twice but when the limitations of the original engine become apparent then it's time to find something else. I'd like a mod which makes Battle Zone ai navigate terrain better! What about a mod that makes Battle Zone units turn towards approaching enemies, instead of waiting 5 seconds of getting smashed, before choosing to retaliate? Even so, no mod will make the game crash less.
  20. It seems like a one-in-a-million chance, but once I played a skirmish on a large map with 4-6 ai players. I set the ai to hard mode and I recall moving a group of attack cycles when a hunter seeker approached. I tried to split up my bikes to minimise the damage, but when the hunter seeker blew up, it spawned another 4-or-more hunter seekers, which chased down my other bikes. I wasn't on the piss or using mods. The game somehow glitched and the hunter seeker multiplied. There are other glitches that are rare, like the cluster missile that flies toward your base and then flies around in circles forever, perhaps until it is assigned a new target. That one happened to me on the final NOD mission in Firestorm.

Battle Zone 1998 has been remastered

I've just discovered this. The missions with furies are pretty bad. There's only one kind of enemy: the fury. In the remaster they are super fast, and can travel the map in 3 seconds. Plus they lower to attack and fire a homing missile, then they disappear upward before you can destroy them. In one mission there isn't even a base to attack - furies appear at random to attack your scavengers, and the mission is to harvest 75 scrap, not good for a late mission. I'd like them to remaster BZ2 and see if that was any good. I haven't played it for 13 years.
  22. I haven't played much of the demo but I'm impressed by the map size. I have trouble in CnC3 when placing structures, because they take up too much room and the maps are tiny. 8 Bit Armies is more like Tiberian Sun with map sizes.
  23. My family cat is 13 years old so I'm concerned about his health. He had to move house recently so I've been feeding him better quality food, to keep him happy and compensate him for stress. He lies on the carpet a lot as if he can't be bothered standing, but he'll rush to me now that I am The Bringer Of Food. The cat is a grey tabby. I think that cats deserve better food and entertainment. At a previous address of mine, there was a black cat who was owned by a very old woman, the cat was often bored. The black cat had a unique personality: he would lie down and then claw the carpet, dragging himself along the floor He seemed bored so I got him fighting with a stick and he loved that. If I ran around the house he would run after me. Definitely a good friendship. If a cat gives you an adoring (or excited) look then you've done well. Food guarantees that, but it's better if they give you an approving look when you play with them. <3 cats Another cat I played with a lot was traumatised by the 2011 earthquake and she had no confidence. She would jump up to the window but couldn't get down. I would move a vase for her and she would get down okay. This cat turned out alright, despite being anxious in the beginning. Her owner also had a grey tabby who walked around with a pretentious posture, as if he owned the street. I ruined my friendship with that cat by awkwardly trying to pick him up. But even after I moved out, I visited the cat again several weeks later and he would still recognise and headbump me to say hi, but nothing more. Cats have their own system of etiquette. Although they might seem stupid and absent minded that's just their instinct to rush around and be stimulated by everything. Beyond that they are very social and appreciative.

Battle Zone 1998 has been remastered

One good thing about BZ 1 is that you have a set number of units which makes the player use them wisely. In BZ 2 you can save scrap and build a massive force where losses don't matter so much. In BZ 2's files there was a wav file of a little girl singing itsy bitsy spider. I'm not sure if it appeared in the game. I remember a disco cannon, was it a cheat or was it hidden in an early American mission?

Battle Zone 1998 has been remastered

I liked BZ 2 for its incredible graphics which I couldn't even run at the time (then my pirated disk died or they did some anti-piracy thing). BZ2 still looks beautiful today, all of the lighting effects and glowing weapons/utility vehicle beams, structures being built from nothing and all that. The system for commanding squads was very good in BZ 2 so I prefer it over the original. BZ 1 had dumb ai but it was manageable - turrets and gun towers you can set up and leave alone, other vehicles can be ordered to follow the player. I played those games when I was 8 - 12 years old so I don't recall much besides hitting in a lot of cheat commands!
