Hi,
Ok first post here because its the first time ive had this problem. First off i know there have been a lot of posts on this "technical difficulties", but i could not find any help for me despite a search. Please help
Here goes....
Ok, I installed Generals today after not having it for ages by uninstalling it a long time ago. The install went fine. I run the game and get into it no problem. I then leave the game and decide to NoCD crack it so i didnt need the cd (have the original, can prove it with a pic if needed) . So i crack it by replacing the game.dat only (not touching the generals.exe). This works fine when i next launch the game. I then decide to update it by connecting to online play. This returns me to windows and starts the patch download. Once the download is complete the patch begins to install.
The patch errors on step 3 or 8, which is where it replaces the game.dat file. THis is because of a file mismatch. I realise this is because of the NoCD crack. So i then replace the game.dat with its original. Then launch the game again (with CD), then goto online again. THis again returns to windows and downloads the patch again. Once done it installs the patch successfully. I then try to run the game without NoCD cracking it to make sure its patched ok.
When i run the game, it shows the pre launch splash screen, then I get the "Technical Difficulties" error. Nothing can be done further.
So i think, ahh ok this must be because the patch was half applied on the first attempt. So i now uninstall the game, and restart the pc. When back in windows i run the installer again. Once its installed i decide to run the game again to update it - BOMB "Technical Difficulties".
This is happening everytime i run the game, no effect on uninstall/reinstall resolves the issue. So now i cant even run it at all. Now i dont understand why or anything because it worked before. I dont understand why it wont revert back to working despite a fresh install.
Couple things to be noted. Each time i have unistalled, i have deleted the contents of the install folder. And thus created it fresh each reinstall. However i have always reinstalled it to the same folder name (but created NEW each time). This is regarding Generals, not Zero Hour, which btw works no problems. I also had this game running on this same system about 6 months ago, so i know it worked!
My system specs are top notch so i know its not that...
