Hassle installing RA2 on XP Pro

hey, i have the same problem when i built a new system for myself. the one i built has a abit as8 intel 865 pe chipset socket lg775 with a new sata hard drive and memory. my rom's , audio and video card are the same. it might be something with sata hard drives if you have one, or it might not. i'm just trying to figure it out. my cd's look fine, in fact they play fine on other pc's. i have tried compatiability, but if you can't install it you can't set compatibility anyway. i've tried newer and older drivers, my opinioin is that's not it, at least in my case. good luck
  2. hello everyone, just built a new system, but not every component is new. my setup is.... abit as8 mb 865 chipset p4 2.8 800 bus corsair xms ddr 400 mhz all in wonder 8500 creative sound blaster audigy sata 80 maxtor for OS install various other drives for storage and dvd rom's/burners. the new components are the as8 motherboard, the lga 775 P4 2.8 cpu, the ram (512 for now), the sata 80 gig maxtor hard drive. here's the problem, i installed xp and sp2 from scratch procede to load varioous windows updates, antivirus, all prgrams etc... try to install red alert 2. it seems slow and sluggish. then a small white box apprears in the center of the screen. Error message which says, setup.exe has encountered and error and needs to close, sorry for any inconvenience... report to microsoft, don't send debug, these are my options. Upon further inspection , by clicking "click here" to see more detailed explanation it mentions ~de7bc4.tmp as the modname appver offset and modver all reported as 0.0.0.0. it doesn't appear to be a driver issue as i've got the latest drivers, i even tried the older drivers with no luck. i can load other cames fine with these roms, they are fairly new. the cd's play fine in other pc's i use them in, but i made backup copies anyhow. i have not had a problem with xp before. i am an administrator account, its the only account on there i checked for spyware, virus, etc. i doubt this has anything to do with it, but, due to my setup with 4 ide devices and my sata drive as the os, my os drive reports as "G" instead of "C". the reason i doubt that this is the issue is that other games load fine and wait till later to ask the install path, and ra2 waits until later to ask the install path... aka doesn't begin installing right away. someone please help me resolve this. thanks
