  1. Nah, I'll take Avengers with me in a fight, but as a seperate team from my tanks and artillery. But the Avenger is the best AA unit out there. The lasers tear up Migs and Raptors to shreads, at most times before they even get a shot off. Plus, the PDL can hopefully take out any shots that get off. That said, I never use avengers as a ground support weapon.

    Stealth Units in RA2

That could be solved by a "mine only this area" command. Similar to a guard area command from Generals. That's something that's badly needed.

Yuri's not impossible to beat, but it can be hard. You really got to strategize. Because Yuri just has so many advantages. One thing that I can't figure out how to counter is how damn good exploers Brutes are. They can easily kill attack dogs and infantry. Flack tracks and IFVs will fall prey also if sent alone. And if you're playing a good opponent, he would allredy have alot of buildings captured and held by Brutes by the time you could build units to counter them. Even if you get to an oil derrick first, the brute can take it from you. Its tough.

    Strange stratagies

Yeah, I fought someone who was playing France in YR. It was on that Morroco Map (I forgot what it was called) and I had allready captured half the map, incluing the airfields and tech machine shop. He was allready screwed but he managed to capture a few oil derricks and was constantly fortifiying them with grand cannons and a handful of mirage tanks. He wanted to counter my good quantity of rhinos that I had steadily been building. But he failed to build any air defence. He was so open that I was able to send a Kirov and 5 siege choppers to take out his power supply. And with no power, you have no grand cannons. Tank blitz! He had like 8 grand cannons, including 2 at his oil derricks. Too much money on those, he should have build a more mobile force. Also he invested alot in 3 airfields... It could have been problem, actually. I had invested alot in tank buildup and had a few flack tracks but not enough to do some series deterance. Just enough to provide anti-infantry support. Offense usually works better than defence (to me anyways). Even if it is a crazy ivan IFV, you got to have some kind of offence to keep the allies from teching up. Keep the enemy on the defensive. Box, jab then come in with haymaker.

    Strange stratagies

Hmmm... really. So is there any point to building more than one factory? Other than redundancy.

    Best Mammoth Tank?

Hehe. That happens. But who doesn't like Madden? Or NBA Street? They're loved by millions for a reason. EA does make some quality games. Some are the best of their genre and some aren't. That's the biz. I give credit to EA only to where its due. Madden, Fight Night, Battlefield, Burnout, NBA Street, Medal of Honor are all great franchises. Generals was decent, but I like the other C&Cs better. I wouldn't say that they ruined the series, seeing how this is their first RTS up to bat. But I would agree with you that they are not the top dog of the RTS market right now.

    Best Mammoth Tank?

If people let the mammoth MK II count as a mammoth tank then the overlord has a right to be in this poll as. I read the arguments on why the overlord should be excluded and I think its just silly. There's just a lot of anit-EA sentiment bleeding through people's reasonings. Nothing more, nothing less.

    who would win

Well, I don't play generals much anymore. But I do play Zero Hour. At least in that USA computer is the toughest. They have amazing ability to pump out tons of high tech units. Why just have numbers when you have lots of high tech numbers? Their armored formations are tough to crack especially when backed up by avengers and tomhawks. Throw in a squad of missle defenders (who are way too good) and the armor force you built to counter that tank attack is burnt. It's hard to beat an American attack with brute force alone. You need some creative manuevering. The absolute toughest Generals opponent is the USA Superweapon General. (That is if you don't limit superweapon). The EMP patriots and particle beams just wear you down.

    best tank

I would rate Mirage tanks better than Rhinos. Eventhough they have less armor, they pack more punch, not to mention the cloaking ability. The most important thing is that they can quickly dish out alot of punishment before succumbing. They are the anti battle fortress unit.

    Abrams

Originality and maybe some copyright issues. Some of these companies that make these weapons systems do have patents on their names. Just look at the legal section of any game that uses a Lockheed Martin aircraft-every single lockheed aircraft is named and credited. (Ace Combat 5 comes to mind). Personally, I'm glad they didn't put the Abrams in the game. Its the most overused, over copied tank everywhere.
  11. Well, generals made superweapons fun. They were an integral part of the gameplay- there were so many ways to counter them (i.e. generals powers). The superweapons though powerful were better balanced with the rest of the gameplay. Plus it was easier to rebuilt after a super weapon strike. If you didn't attack while the enemy was still melting in toxic ozoee, there was a chance he'll strike back. This isn't the case in RA2. However got the super weapons first usually wins. There are less options to counter them, short of completely destroying the other guy's base.

    Yuri's Revenge Campaign

Yeah, harriers are kind of worthless in the campaign (unless you're taking out masterminds) but can be usefull in online battles.
  13. sonofabandit

    best tank

Mirages are great when you have them at strategic positions and you have enough of them. I've seen entire columns of tanks get shredded because some mirages were sitting on a cliff. They're decent at tearing up the lighter base defences but I wouldn't use them to assualt a battle bunker, prism tower or telsa coil.
  14. sonofabandit

    best tank

Yeah, that sounds alot better than alot of the other combos I was seeing. GIs in battle fortresses are lethal for base assualts. I never really fell in love with Chrono legionaries- they take to long to varporize things. Seals are great but can get expensive. I'd rather use G.I.s. Lately I've started to abuse telsa tanks with the Soviets. They're lethal on infantry and terror drones, and they chew up apocs like none other. They don't have a high fire rate but they're speedy and they hit hard. That's a cruical characteristic when you're facing tough units like loaded BFs. You need somethin that will get a damaging shot off before it succumbs.
