Let me clear that up for you. Though I must say I'm shocked no one else could put some simple pieces together to answer this question for you. NOD isn't an acronym. It just happens to be entirely capitalized to fit with GDI. In the bible there is a story about Kane and his brother Abel. Kane grows jealous of Abel and is tempted... He kills his brother. God punishes Kane by sending him to the Land of Nod which is outside of the Garden of Eden. This is where Westwood got the idea. And if I'm wrong then I'd like to see a better explanation.
