Command & Conquer 4 Previewed in PC Gamer UK
mirza044 replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Agree, but as i said once, I'm afraid that EALA with that and some other things (comebacks of some TS units) just trying to compensate for their complete overhaul of C&C gameplay mechanic. -

Is there anything you dislike about C&C4 or where you disagree with EALA? -

Nice read! -
You are right. I have to say that I like how most of the GDI units looks, but this hover-toy with oversized gun (and to make things worse, placement of gun on the vehicle is asymmetric) is ridiculous. Design wise, It's in par with some of Nod units, cartoony and "artistic". To support that large gun, vehicle have to be much larger and heavier and probably need to be tracked. Even C&C4 is a Sci-Fi RTS (RTT?), there is need to be some common sense and feasibility in unit design philosophy (as it westwood did, just look in some of their concepts), but it seems that common sense is not so common in EALA.

The First Command & Conquer 4 Trailer Arrives
mirza044 replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Nice trailer. I like atmosphere in the trailer and it's nice to see that Kane wearing dark uniform from TS era (also he weared it in first act of Kane's Wrath campaign). -
EALA is really slow learner or worse: they don't want to learn. There were many complaints about cartoony design of some C&C3 Nod units and now we get even some worse designed units (flame tank for example). Tiberian universe is dark, serious, detailed, and units and a whole game need to be designed in that manner. If they don't have a inspiration or even if they don't know how to achieve that, there is tons of old Westwood concept arts which they can always consult, and I know they do, but somehow that their choice of "artistic" design direction over serious design ruins everything.

Maybe it's limited how many times it can respawn.

Ironic isn't it Funny, as far as I know (probably you know better then me) EALA mostly ignoring the fans (with few exceptions, most of them related with KW). Here people not complaining just about gameplay mechanic (when you said that you hope that EALA ignore the fans, you probably refered to complaints about gameplay mechanic), there was complaints about unit design, story, atmosphere, storyline inconsistencies, etc. always online - I don't like this, because I never was and I don't planing to do anything online related with C&C and there are numerous other reasons. I am traditional C&C player, singleplayer and skirmish only and I don't have need to upload my stats or to compete with other people. EALA should give as offline option for playing C&C4. gameplay mechanic - I have mixed filings. I will wait to see that defensive class and their base building. From what I know now, I still think this is too extreme change, maybe EALA should left some basic (limited) base building. atmosphere - those maps (environment) showed on screenshot and few magazine scans much resemble to TS style maps (at least more than TW maps) and I like that, but absence of tiberium worries me. I don't know if EALA going to put tiberium "crystals" around the maps, if not as harvestable resource then as aesthetic element or obstacle (damaging infantry) and I hope that they are going to bring some TS-like fora and fauna (veinholes - damaging vehicles) or something new. music - probably we will know nothing about quality of the music scores until is C&C4 released. If EALA brings back Fran, that probably going to help. story and storyline inconsistencies - From what EALA told as, story sounds strange - Kane teaming with GDI? Again, probably we will need to wait for C&C4 to be released to see how story going to end and is there going to be any storyline inconsistencies with previous C&Cs from Tiberian Universe. ps unit design - Most of GDI units looks good and some of them brings strong TS feeling, but I'm not sure about Nod units, some of them looks funny.
-
This bottom bar design reminds me: similar design has C&C3 Incursion sidebar. I like how they designed bottom bar, but I would be more like it if it is SIDEBAR (remember EALA, C&C classic UI, if you decided to change gameplay, there is no need to change other classic elements) and there is more... For one tiberium devasted planet, on these scans I failed to see any sign of tiberium (oh, there is one small crater with tiberium, looks very threatening and dangerous ) If I'm on EALA devs place, and I want to soften fans, beside bringing tons of TS era units, I would bring tiberium seeded on every corner of the map (even if it's not harvestable, and with possibility of tiberian pods), tiberium in all sizes, shapes, colors (blue, green, spikes, chasms, liquid, classic tiberium and probably some new froms) and tiberian flora and fauna (maybe even worse mutated vegetation with more tiberian lifeforms).
-
They killed the sidebar? This is getting from bad to worse. Nod units looks like toys! They really don't giving up from their crappy "artistic" design direction. GDI units looks OK and I'm glad to see more TS era (upgraded) units. But as I thought, EALA bringing more of TS era units to soften fans because they are introducing this "new" (DOW2-like) gameplay mechanic. I'm complaining because I planed to buy C&C4, and that's why I care.
-
Correct, and why they longed? Long timespan between releases of two C&Cs with classic gameplay mechanic (RA2/YR - TW: about five or six years). haha, that's good one
-
There is better name: TIBERIAN Twilight
-
RA3 was released in relative short period of time after TW (two years, even less) and KW (about six or seven months), and when you have situation when every year has been released game with same or very similar gameplay mechanic, casual gamers getting bored, and maybe some fans (I'm not sure about that many fans complained about gameplay mechanic). You see, same thing happend with RA2, reviewers complained RA2 has a same gameplay mechanic as TS, even one reviewer wrote about RA2 "another day and another Tiberian Sun". Why? Same thing as it was with TW and RA3, short period of time between releases of these two games. I have one question for you Hagren: why reviewers not complained that much about gameplay mechanic of TW, even it's gameplay mechanic is same as it is in previous C&Cs (excluding Generals and ZH) and even it's dumbed, missing few features which existed in previous C&Cs (amphibious units, subterrain movement, deformable terrain, etc)?

If only you said:"C&C3 didn't do that much damage, maybe in few things", maybe I would agree with you, but didn't do any? Any at all? C'mon Sonic, you run this site and forum and probably you read hundreds of posts and few articles where was explained what is wrong in C&C3: Storyline inconsistencies (repaired in KW to some extent), new "evolved" tiberium (OK, I can live with that), no tiberian flora and fauna (lifeforms, veinholes, etc.) and thus no dark and apocalyptic atmosphere (maybe on few red zone maps, and C&C3 is more atmospheric than RA3), and, maybe not so important, unit "artistic" design. There is number of units in C&C3 which look more like mascots and toys than some serious hi-tech soldiers and military vehicles. Sales and reviews? I agree that C&C3 is good RTS, fun to play, etc., but it's not good as Tiberian Sun and Firestorm successor. Many reviewers don't pay attention on storyline inconsistencies and other subtle details which are very important to most C&C fans, or at least to old C&C fans. Upgrading yes, but completely changing no. There is huge difference between progressive transition and extreme change. Based on little official info and some rumors (for which I say again, I hope it's not true, but we shall see for few more days) extreme changes going to be introduced in C&C4, maybe too much extreme. Probably some changes going to be good for C&C and Tiberian Universe, but we shall see.

EA have a chance to repair damage they did with C&C3. With KW they already repaired few things, but that's not enough. C&C4 is their chance for "redemption" but it seems that's not going to happen. Even it's still early for any serious thought or comment (we need to wait for more official informations and clarifications), with every new bit of information sounds that everything about C&C4 going from bad to worse. I just hope that some of previous comments (rumors) are not true. In case that all rumors are true (no harvestable tiberian fields, tiberian sipkes as primary resource, tiberian spikes instead of classical or EA C&C3 evolved tiberium, etc) now I understand why they bringing more TS era units into action: EA want to compensate for radical change of C&C4 gameplay mechanic.

CNC Den's C&C3: The Forgotten Mod Interview

Good read. Maybe it's off topic, but it's mod related: there is few new screens of Tiberian Sun Rising here http://www.rising.cnc-source.com/ -
C&C4 official site is up and running: http://www.commandandconquer.com/cnc4/index.html

I don't see using SAGE engine as drawback. Many engine drawbacks is possible to overcome with clever design of units, terrain, buildings, etc. Many C&C3 TW mods proves that. I see logic behind that, EA probably want's that C&C4 be playable for wide variety of PC specs, even RA3 is better optimized and runs better on low-end machines. It's going to be interesting to see system requirements for C&C4 and waht version of SAGE engine use it: C&C3 (KW) upgraded version or upgraded version of RA3 engine, but I think it's going to be second.
-
There is much worse scenario. Imagine, in some point in the future, EA stops with support for C&C4 and how you going to play C&C4? Another scenario: hypotheticaly, something happens to EA (shutdown, bankruptcy, etc) and then how you suppose to play C&C4? C&C community is not some MMO community, heck, it's not even multiplayer community!
-
Well done! I'm going to wait for more details about C&C4 to form my opinion. Many C&C4 features mentioned in that Gamespot QA I found very interesting, except one: must be online when play singleplayer or skirmish!? WTF! No internet connection or temporary not available internet connection and you can't play C&C4! It's worse than RA3 DRM!
-
It's seems that C&C community going to have a chance to suggest subtitle for C&C4, according to Gamespot's C&C QA. My suggestion for C&C4 subtitle is Tiberian Twilight!

Command & Conquer Mega-Bomb Drops in July

C&C4 announced! http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/comman...clk=&page=1 -
Great mod, I'm looking forward to play this. PS I know that authors of the red alert mod not aiming to model realism (even first red alert game don't have all real-life units - mammoth, tesla, heavy tank, etc), but i think that some most reckongizable (mostly allied) units should be based on real-life design (light tank - M2 Bradley IFV or M60 Patton MBT, medium tank - M1 Abrams). Even without real-life design, most of units looks great, except one (maybe there is more, I didn't went looking through all of units), light tank. It's looks comical and funny, more comical than most units in RA2 and RA3, and RA suppose to be more serious game than it's successors.
