*ouch* indeed. Looks highly edited though, can someone confirm if that is true or not?

your missing an option for those who had seen it back then... I reckon it was either a joke or a teaser.

Then they just add on an extra number to the beggining of the phone numbers. It's happened here in Australia - where they prefixed 9 and a while ago started adding 6 (used for phones that are provided over IP). Also happened in Israel with mobile phones, where they added on an extra number and changed the prefixes to create heaps more phone numbers and heaps of confusion for the first couple of months.

So... who can explain why the menu forum link opens the forum in a new window? Also, since this is a DIV based system, there is no way to stop it from opening a new window (no way to middle click etc. etc.) Any chance these can be either a) converted into normal links (then, even if the target is set to _blank that can be captured) or set to open in the current site (it's not as though we're leaving the site...

Actually, it's just a pretty visualisation tool, but because CNCNZ.com's main page is so complex and full of links and stuff it looks great. Check it out: http://www.aharef.info/static/htmlgraph/?u...2Fwww.cncnz.com

Why don't they keep the bodies on the field?
Nachmore replied to jjffjhjf's topic in Tiberian Sun / Firestorm
* sorry for the long post - this is actually more for an article. Actually, with todays computers it probably would be possible to keep heaps of bodies and charred tanks etc. around on the playing field. Though, if you look at that from a realism point of view, time is moving much faster than normal (unless it really does take 30 seconds to create a tank and 10 to train a soldier) so bodies would be decomposing and dissapearing etc. etc. As for the levels of interaction between soldiers (friends, laughing etc) the amount of AI that would have to go into that would be massive. You would be talking about separate feelings for each soldier - or each group at least and the affect that has on the group. Possible again but is that what you really want? There was a slashdot article a few weeks ago that pointed out that people like animations and animated characters to a certain point. That point happens when the animation starts becoming too human like - at that point the brain stops processing the pictures as an animation ("awww... cute... oooh... cool stuff") and it starts looking at it as though it was real - and that's where the small quirks start ("he walks slightly funny", "his lips are slightly not talking right" etc. etc.). The same applies to gaming. As soon as things start becoming to realistic you start getting bogged down by the small details which only realy serve to detract from the fun of the game. -

naaah it doesn't traverse more than the first page - so no reading in, but cncnz and petro both have massivly complex first pages with heaps of html elements. -

It stops here after about a minute. The graphs for cncnz and petro are massive! -

it's just a small novelty - not really *that* amazing, but not that bad either... Good for a couple of seconds of viewing, a "ooohh aaahh" and then a quick click on the X -
North Koreans.......Taepaedong-2 launched
Nachmore replied to Q-Bomb's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Nachmore is currently in Perth, Australia and has just finished a couple of years as an officer in the IDF. The staff page still lists him as being in Israel, but that's ok (no need to change that). Let me just make it clear that I am against any civillians being hurt in any type of way and for any reason (that always seems to come up first)... on the other hand Israel can not sit back and take it quietly when it's cities are being bombed, it's borders are violated and it's soldiers and civilians kidnapped and killed. I'll restate what I said before - what would your country do in the same situation? How safe would you feel if you were a citizen in the same situation and your country acted in a different way? Throw in the fact that army service is compulsory so everyone has been through the army, has a son / daughter / cousin / brother / sister etc. in the army and wants to know that everything is being done to protect their lives... -

Nachmore replied to Q-Bomb's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
man... this thread is getting out of hand In the end the Israeli side of things boil down to how much of a right Israel has to defend itself against attacks of these nature. What is a "proportionate response"? I wonder how the countries that define the current response as "disproportionate" would respond if they were being bombed from the other side of their border and a small incursion team crossed the border and kidnapped their soldiers. As for the nuclear missiles program. I have doubts that the reason is humanitarian based as opposed to mainly military from the simple reason that the amount of money spent on those missiles could have made life much easier for a lot of people. -

yeah it should stop - it doesn't start following the links to much, though it takes quite a while because of the size of the site. Oh yeah, forgot to mention it was Java based - sorry to those who had their system slowed! :? -
North Koreans.......Taepaedong-2 launched
Nachmore replied to Q-Bomb's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
It's not that easy. Lebanon doesn't like Israel that much either - and it seems (or so they claim) that they don't have the power to do anything against the hezbolla. The rockets were fired at Haifa, though in a CNN report (http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/13/mideast/index.html) the Hezbolla say it wasn't them. If it had been the Iranians though it would have been a larger sized missile and it would have been detected on radar beforehand, so I strongly doubt that it was from Iran. Btw - a good writeup about who the hezbolla are: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/13/...llah/index.html -

Nachmore replied to Q-Bomb's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
The kidnapping was done by the hezbolla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezbollah) which (in short) is a terrorist organisation that has expanded into something larger. The organisation exerts miltary control over the southern regions of Lebanon - including outposts, patrols etc. The democratic government in Lebanon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanon) doesn't actually control it's own southern reaches, giving way to hezbollah to do as they see fit. The problem is that because of this status quo there is no difference between hezbolla and Lebanon itself, which is sad because it gets the country involved in things that it shouldn't be involved in, causing civilian casualties etc. For more information on the actual operation that is going on there (because it hasn't actually been termed a war yet): Operation Just Reward -

Testing nuclear missiles to feed hungry people. Yup, I gotta put it to you, I don't know how I didn't think of that for my economics essay last semester. whoa... I need to hear the rationale behind this one (and choose your words carefully). -
deff. fake - it isn't even up there anymore.
-
well... you have my vote for "not" - but I don't think that it's that much of an important issue.

Looks cool - but will it fit in well with the blue layout?

My cat understands politics more than some of you guys (and he only just learnt how to jump on to the kitchen counter). I mean seriously, this is the Open Discussion area but lighten up. These guys are posers, that's about it. There are so many real wars and problems going on right now that it is amazing how much attention is diverted to a missiles test by a country which is known for it's attempts to antagonise the world. -
It should activate when you type in a multiline text box (like this forum box). If not check around the preferences somewhere... not sure exactly where...
-
yup those are the menus I was talking about. So, what is the rationale of having it launch a new window for the forum?

The main change is the inline spell checker for forms, which is a cool feature that has been somewhat available as an extension but is now built in. Apart from that there are things like tab scrolling when there are too many tabs open and individual close buttons per tab. Favorites and stuff shouldn't be deleted - though if you are upgrading to a beta version (or like this which is a pre-beta version) I would deff. recommend a backup of your data first. who wants more colors of tiberum (eg red, yellow)
Nachmore replied to jacg123's topic in Tiberium Wars / Kane's Wrath
I reckon different types of tiberium could add a twist to the game. If you ask me, the greatest challenge for C&C3 is to somehow not be monotonous and differentiate itself from previous and other games. This could be a great way of creating different strategies etc. P.S. opinions -
lol it's just a release candidate for a beta. i.e. it is nothing better than the trunk compiled and released. Althoug it's nice to upgrade - you shouldn't be doing this unless you are looking for help with the testing purposes (or just want to be "cool" - but then you'd be compiling from source and running that...). The new features are interesting and useful, though it still remains to to be seen whether or not this really needed to be a version 2. Most of the changes seem to be behind the scenes... There's a nice review here: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060710-7229.html
