    Desktop CPU Thread

Yeah. It becomes a matter of budget, need, preference, and your balancing of all those stuff. Meh, since me and my dad are into editing, and since Nvidia's CUDA simply is the best in terms of video editing (when in comparison to other desktop GPU), we use Nvidia, and since Nvidia and Intel are practically one nowadays, then we use Intel. Mind you, we love AMD, but our budget and needs call for Intel and Nvidia combination. But really, it's just a push-and-pull game; one company gets above the other at some point, then it becomes the other way around, so on and so forth. At least in this endless competition, the really winner is US, since they really have to put up a hell of a performance to impress us. >

Offline games will soon end, claims EA

That's another thing. Steam is kinda like the iTunes Store for games; although the main difference is that Apple was rabid in making the iTunes Store better, while Steam... Well, let's just say the way things are, I still end up buying games in hard format. Plus there's all the nifty goodies. >

    Anyone getting Black Ops?

Hahaha! They can't take the fact that not everybody likes what they like. LOL. Me, I love my games, but that doesn't mean everybody else has to love them. Even my dad takes a stab at me for playing Halo; he says I should just play Medal of Honor (the new one; he loves the cellphone gun thing >). And I mean, it's not as if COD is the only other FPS in the market that can go toe-to-toe with Halo. Medal of Honor, Crysis 2 (when it goes out, anyway) and others can stand on their own against Halo. My guess is that they just need to have a label for those that don't agree with them. LOLZ.

    Zero Hour serious error

Hahaha. Point taken. I was never really a fan of Westwood or EA RTS game engines anyway. And they are quite buggy at times. >

Yeah. That's how the music industry dealt with piracy; they adapted to it. The internet, once solely a source of pirated, well, downloaded music, was turned into the LARGEST music store. And they cut production costs, and relieved consumers of additional costs in buying music (which is often due to the production of cases, covers and whatever bull**** crap that has actually nothing to do with the music). The game industry can still be saved, especially the single player ones, BUT the game companies have to think out of the box; they gotta adapt to the technology, instead of clinging to old ways (such as the practically worthless DRM bull****). After all, it's like a never ending competition between armor (anti-piracy tech) and guns (piracy tech); one will always one-up the other, and vice-versa; with the consumer becoming the casualty. The sooner they realize that, the better.

Hahaha! Nah, you don't seem to be a COD fanboy. You prefer it, but you're not a fanatic. I'd say fanboys are fanatics, ones that would call you an infidel the first mention of another game. Me, I appreciate each and every game as much as possible, but I can't possibly say that I love 'em all. And I think that applies for everyone. Meh, I don't get involved in that stuff. I'd discuss a game on technical aspects, but one you get into gameplay preferences, I back off. It's subjective; it's a useless debate (except for informing others).
  10. Actually, that would be a common misconception. Me and my dad are actually into that business. Most outsource labor (at least in the video editing business and in general computer-related business) uses desktop graphic cards, except we prefer those with some nifty features (like Nvidia's CUDA). And there are a lot of outsourced video editing jobs nowadays. Just look at the Craig's list. Of course, these desktop cards aren't really for movie editing, or game development; rather, this would be for smaller-scale, boutique-like jobs (let's say short ads, AE and PR work, etc.). So yeah, you're right in the sense that those that will edit movies and develop games won't bother with these cards, but I will stress my point that a large percentage of the video editing labor force (in the form of outsourcing) use desktop graphic cards.

Pic of the day, or of my day. Ahem. Dunno bout ya'll but this shoved a grin on my face. P.S. I love the kill counts and the fact that Bungie employees a hell lot of losses. >

    This Will Be LONG.

Good morning, noon, afternoon, evening or whatever time it is wherever you're from (the one reading this >). This is both an introduction AND a return address. Hehe. Some forum veterans, like Luk3us (congrats on being the first guy to pop-up in my head), Sonic (the great founder >), Doctor Destiny (you were Beowulf before, I think >), Saracen, Hypnotist, and whoever else was there about 5 or 6 years or so, will probably remember my name as either Mr. Machine Gun (yes, the gun nut with guns for avatars), Azrael (licking cartoon avatar) or rzr69erz. I first came here looking for maps for C&C: Generals. Then I got hooked to the forums. As a forum member, I've pretty much moved around; I've been there seen the Now Playing threads were first created (note that this is not in order, I'm just saying what I remember), I was there when some nut was banned repeatedly then perma banned for being rude and spamming heavily. I was there when we jumped from PHPBB to IP Boards for forum system (or did I get it right? All I know is we switched from one platform to another >). I remember there was this guy who was an actual marine, an avid C&C fan, and also an intellectual, and we'd spend entire hours just talking on threads. Of course, he disappears every now and then because, after all, he is a marine. I remember the anticipation the community had for Pteroglyph and it's first game; I remember debates on which C&C game was better; heck, I remember debates on which Mammie (Mammoth Tank, if you didn't know) version was the best. Some might remember me asking for help about girls, of all things. Some might remember me as the adolescent who yapped and yapped, tried to be respectful but was damn rude at the same time, and never backed down from his opinions. I probably was one of the youngest guys here that time. And there were the Drunken Stupor threads. Boy. Then I suddenly disappeared from the forums, about four years ago. Since then, I was gone. But the memory of this place never left me. Here, I learned life lessons (from the unlikeliest of sources). Here, I was indoctrinated in rock music (I was a hip-hop/pop nut back then). Here, I got to make friends from every demographic. Since then, I'd like to think I grew up. I went to hell and back; and many of the things and memories from CNCNZ helped me out through those times. Now, I'm a writer for a local newspaper, my opinion-making being necessary for that position (and I was well-shaped in that thanks to this community), am a student in the top university of my country (the Philippines). and practically became a better man. And now, I'm back. For good. For those that didn't know me, well, that's my background (or at least part of it). Hi, hope to know you soon, blah2x. To the veterans, hello again. Let's go posting again. > A long read, sentimental bull**** and all. But that's that. Let's go post.
  14. Ah, excellent my friend. Haven't been able to play TS in years. This'll be nostalgic fun. > *If this was Facebook, I'd have liked your post XD*
  15. The market, in my opinion, isn't necessarily slumping; rather, it's shifting. The focus has slowly drifted away from single player games (in which you can max out graphics like it's going out of style) to multiplayer ones (in which graphics takes a back seat in comparison to latency, ping, mechanics, etc.). The main market for the new cards won't usually be gamers (game developers tend to ensure that even older video cards are at least, to some extent, supported by their games) but rather video editors, like me and my dad. Seriously, nobody wants to see an Adobe After Effects video worth about 5 minutes taking about 20 minutes to render, and that's raw by the way, no compression or codec bull****. Those dual core video cards will come in handy, especially in reducing render periods and buffering (useful when scrubbing videos). In short, editors will benefit the most in the short term; gamers will have to wait before the full power of those cards will completely be utilized by games.

    Tron Countdown

Gotta agree with Sonic. I'm kinda doubtful about Tron. Not to mention that I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to movies.

    Windows 8

Oh, year 2k software seems to run well on 7. The problems are on legacy stuff, like the original RA, Starcraft and all of your old-school games. Meh, I'm glad with Win7 64-bit. I just have to be extra cautious with peripherals. I do hate restarting the PC all of a sudden.

    Now Playing - Games

Ahahaha! Yeah, games with lots of options and flexibility steal the most of your time. Like Halo: Reach's Firefight mode. I honestly spend twice or even thrice as much time fine-tuning a game scenario for me and my cousins than actually playing. The user interfaces are the Devil's equipment for stealing your time. > Btw, I'm playing the Sims 3 right now. I've had enough of shootin' and assassinatin' and 'nading people in Reach. >

And greetings to you as well. Ain't that damn formal. >
  20. WTF? That's practically overkill, a waste of money, and pointless. I mean, you gotta buy multiple motherboards and video cards, and chances are you'd have to go for the high-end ones. That'll leave a burning hole in your wallet, and sooner or later that'll be obsolete anyway. Why bother? Just hook up two ATI or Nvidia mid-range GPUs in a Gigabyte motherboard. Runs hella fast, and doesn't cost like hell. And it can be replaced without any regrets.

    Zero Hour serious error

Ah. The trick could either be running the game as administrator, or, more likely, running the game in compatibility mode (don't diagnose; just have it run in Win XP SP2 mode). Had the same troubles for Starcraft 1 and the Sims 2. The administrator and compatibility modes often take care of problems in a jiffy.

    What's in your Rig?

Got no pics to post yet. Though I will post the specs (for mine; I don't know my dad's specs). Case: unknown brand, 500W PSU Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA79OX-DS4 (S-series) Processor: Intel i3 @2.93 Ghz Video Card: Nvidia 9800 GT, 1GB (Nvidia, from me? Well, I had no choice! I wanted ATI but Nvidia is better for video editing) Ram: 2x Kingston 4GB DDR3 Primary HDD (System & Software Only): Seagate SATA 300 GB Secondary HDD (Data): Seagate Sata 500 GB Tertiary HDD: Western Digital 1 TB and Seagate 500 GB on Xtreamer Pro external networked HDD Monitor: LG LED Flatron E2350, 21" Speakers: Altec Lansing 2.1 (old model) Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech Internet Pro (Wired) OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit We've got 2 more rigs, one for TV viewing and as a backup for encoding videos. The other is the super fast, 4 TB loaded PC of my dad, which is the primary video editing rig.

    Anyone getting Black Ops?

Ah, to each his own. Hehe. I got nothing against COD. I love Halo over COD, but that sure as hell doesn't give me the rights to bash it (and I never will). Everyone prefers something over the other, and preferences always differ. Just saying, sometimes fanboys (notably PS3/COD and Xbox 360/Halo fanboys) bash each other despite the pointlessness of the whole thing.

    Windows 8

Hm. My dad has higher specs than my PC in terms of, well, ram and processor, and he doesn't suffer from the glitch, but I sometimes do... And we both have the same OS. So, deducing from that, I am assuming that it is probably with that difference that this problem in 64-bit occurs. Correct me if my deduction is off.
