  1. Like the topic suggest I am trying to find out how to install and successfully run Dawn on a 64 bit system. When I used to play on XP I had to change the compatibility settings and install an XP patch to play but it won't even launch the setup.exe file on my 64 bit OS. I looked around the forums here the other night and saw one or two topics and one of them said something about a setup manager but I can't seem to find that topic again. I have the Worldwide Warefare pack, I'm aware of the OpenRA(source implementation) and the free download of Dawn on the EA website. I just want to get this game installed again on my PC so I can play. I'm not really worried about playing online , but if I can I might. I'd rather just get the missions and I would be fine with those. My specs are Win 7x64 ATI 5800 series 6 gig ram intel core i7 930 proc
  2. Ok, I'm getting this error that I never got before and it's quite annoying. See screen shot below... This will be the first time running it on my new PC and my new PC specs are... Processor: Intel® Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz Memory: 6144MB RAM Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621) It says that my PC is overhearing but that is far from true. Any thoughts on this?

    Funny Generals Reference

So my friend sends me this random YouTube link of a promotional video for WWE (which I don't watch anymore lol), he tells me to watch and pay attention when the video hits around 2:12 on the timer, so I do and I was like...WTF, Generals...in WWE? Really? Usually they just have punk or rock music playing, but to actually take a song from a video game? I enjoyed it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=819S_tRUU8Y
  4. Anyone know of a good mod that is compatible with the single player missions? I usually play with Eagle Red and I can only do the Soviet missions. The first Allied mission messes up. Your objectives are to capture power plants to power the time machine. Well, once I do capture them all, and I kill all of Yuri's units, nothing else happens. I think Tanya is supposed to arrive, but she never does. Any suggestions?

    Mods compatible with Campaigns?

It's just frustrating because when I did the missions for Red Alert 2, I wanted to try something new, so I installed the Aftermath mod. It was fully compatible with the missions. I then moved onto Yuri's Revenge where I have always used the Eagle Red mod for as long as I can remember. The Soviets missions work fine, but not the Allied. To make things worse, I have played those missions with Eagle Red ALONG time ago, but I forget how the hell I did it lol.

    Mods compatible with Campaigns?

What I meant was, being able to run through the missions using the Modifications.

    Problem installing YR

OK, cool. Thanks for getting back to me on all my questions. You've all been very helpful and rather fast on getting back to me. I visited here about a year ago and received some hastily replies. I like it. Thanks again! PS: I made another topic for Yuri's if you want to check it out. http://forums.cncnz.com/topic/16350-mods-compatible-with-campaigns/
  8. I recently tried installing YR for the first time on Windows 7 and I am getting an error message during the install process. When the progress bar gets to about 66%, it stops and a few minutes later a message pops up underneath where it says "Agent Tanya's report". The message says, "Could not read from file ra2md.mix". In the bottom right hand corner where the "Cancel" button is, a "Resume" button now appears if I want to try installing again from 66%. If click yes, it installs all the way up to 100%, only to give me the error again. How can I fix this so YR installs properly?

    Problem installing YR

Problem solved. My CD had a smudge that I missed the first few times upon examining it. I had some glasses cleaner and a cloth, and it installed finally. Don't you hate it when it's something so trivial lol. Thanks again though. Doctor Destiny, making copies of the CD, I just do the copy command or is there some special process?

    Problem installing YR

OK, I will let you know the results later. Just curious though, why not run the compatibility in Windows 7? lol And, I have ALL the CD's from C&C, could I copy ALL the contents of EACH CD so in the future if my CD's do get some scratches, I would have digital backup files?

Anyone here heard of this new standalone mod called "The Dawn of the Tiberium Age"? Using the Tiberian Sun engine, they implemented Tiberian Dawn into it and I must say they did a very good job. Personally, the working skirmish does it for me as I've been told it is nearly impossible to do on the original C&C. I am not promoting this mod in anyway,( promotion is a by-product of what I am seeking)however the game was designed mainly for multi-player purposes, and because of that, the AI in skirmish is very basic and does not provide a challenge. The game comes with an INI file and I've made some adjustments here and there, but only the small ones have seemed to take an effect. Does anyone here know enough about scripting ini that they could make the AI perhaps better? Build more buildings, mass tanks sometimes, etc? I believe the designer used the ini from TS, at least that's what it looks like.

Good point, I spent so much time playing this recently I was still thinking in terms of "Dawn" lol. I guess I will copy it over.
  14. I don't claim to know much about coding a game, but if you write up an INI file here eventually, couldn't you set up the AI functions of a skirmish there? I know in Red Alert that all the functions of the AI are in the INI file. I know that's a different game but I was just wondering about it.
  15. What other kind of ideas you have up your a sleeve? A map editing tool perhaps? Working skirmish(as in...AI deploys MCV and builds a base)? Or is that too much code? I was reading a topic of yours here....http://forums.cncnz.com/index.php?showtopic=13910.... and I was interested in the color scheme. Where do I got to edit that? I looked in my directory but I only had one file I could mess with, the "conquer" file which is configuration settings.
  16. Oh really? Well so far I've just been breezing through the game without having to use those files. I did skip 2 missions I think and I turned to the saved files, but I didn't have any problems with them. As far as the CnC editor goes, I don't change much. Just some prices and speed of units. The light tank is ridiculously slow in Dawn and I set it to the same speed as the APC. That's about all I do with that, but it's good that you may include an ini file to work in the future. I've seen your name a lot recently on these forums that are trying to revive this game, you seem to be the #1 guy, so keep up the good work!

    tiny maps - help!

Yeah that's it Nyer. 62 x 62 IS bigger than I remember. That's cool lol. Brings back memories of doing comp stomps with AI that didn't build bases. Such a shame
  18. Ok, I pretty got Dawn all squared away and I've made it to the eleventh mission tonight. Thanks a bunch Nyer. I also want to say that the save files I have for the missions that I downloaded EONS ago, still work. I also have a file called C&C Gold Edit that is kind of like Tib Ed, only it's for Dawn only. That still works for your patched version of Dawn. If you want it I could upload it somewhere. Once I finish with Dawn I will play Red Alert. Thanks again.

    tiny maps - help!

That's weird, those maps back then seemed way bigger than 62x62. I remember one map called "Ore Gardens" or something, and I remember it being a larger style map. Or maybe 62x62 is actually pretty big. It's been awhile since I've messed around with those sizes and configurations. Oh well.
  20. OK, I got Dawn to work fine now. Thank you very much. However when I launch the game, the main screen is distorted with all sorts of colors. Once I select to play the game, and come back to the screen, it's fine. It's a weird problem, not a big deal but if there is a fix I would like to know how. Also, I noticed that none of the movies loaded. Is that because it's a free download and it's been nerfed? I got RA to work as well. I downloaded the "- Red Alert 3.03 patch created by Westwood Studios, edited by Nyerguds to add TFD support and extra fixes (EXE installer)... like you said. I also this too..... - RA1 v3.03 Network DLL Patch v1.00 created by Scorpio9a, edited by Nyerguds for RA 3.03 (DLL) Did I download the right one and what is the 2nd one?

    tiny maps - help!

Is it the engines limitation for making "new" maps? Or skirmish maps in general? I only ask that because WAAAAY back in the day when it was possible to play C&C on WOL the skirmish maps they had to offer where much bigger.

    Error loading ZH or Generals

Ok, here's what's been going on recently. I deleted everything, and started from scratch and it still gave me an error. I then remembered that "another" folder is created in the Application Data folder where data is stored. I deleted that, and Generals worked. The patches I have for my games are from the original Westood FTP site that I have saved on my external storage device from years ago. They are legit. After I had Generals working, I played it for a few days using fan made maps. Bay of Pigs 2 to be exact. I then got bored with that, so I installed Zero Hour. I launched the game, and I got in. I made it all the way to the skirmish mode where you pick bases and colors and everything. I said to myself that it works, and I exited the game. The VERY next time I launched ZH, I got that error again just after the loading screen after the EA movie, and the opening intro. What is going on here? Could it be related to the fan maps? I will try another clean start again soon. PS: My pc does not over heat, I have 7 fans and I have a program running that monitors temperatures and fan speeds. It's not my machine lol.

    Error loading ZH or Generals

I'm running it in compatibility mode, and as an Administrator, so I don't think that's the problem. As far as the Data folder not being created, I found the fix for there HERE on this forum. It wouldn't even launch the game until I created that options.ini file and set my resolution. Also, I DID have the the Tiberium Redux mod installed and that gave me the same error as I am getting now, so I uninstalled that, and uninstalled ZH and Generals and tried to start from scrated. I am still getting this error. Would be something simple as a resolution error? I'm going to run some more tests on this tonight. PS: My resolution is set to 1600 900 because I have a wide screen monitor. When I filled out the options.ini that's the resolution I entered. I notice however after launching the game and going into the options menu, it' still set at 800 600. Weird huh? I thought if I exited the game, set my desktop to 800 600 and THEN tried it, it would fix it. It didn't, it must be a bad file from that Tiberium Redux, but I deleted all the folders! o.0
