Sonic 296 Posted June 17, 2009 As a part of their Lookin’ Back feature, Brutal Gamer have gone back in time to look back at one of RTS history's most influential games, Red Alert. Here's a sample from the article. Hello, and welcome to another instalment of Lookin’ Back. As a big fan of Real Time Strategy games, I’ve decided to go for probably my favourite RTS ever. I think it’s safe to say that most people have heard of the Command & Conquer series that was initially created by Westwood Studios, who also made the Dune games. In this edition, I’m going to talk about the second game in the long running Command & Conquer franchise, the original Red Alert. It takes place in an alternative history of World War II, in which Albert Einstein developed a device that would enable time travel. He went back in time to eliminate Hitler and prevent World War II from happening. However, all this does is change the sides, as the Soviet empire tries to conquer Europe and the Allies, in this reality including Germany, are trying to prevent it. Nmenth 291 Posted June 17, 2009 He thought it was more fun than TA? Very nice. Total Annihilation got boring fast. I agree Red Alert was better simply because I wasted more time on it. Supreme Commander however... Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) I like that good old classics get's some media attention. They really deserve it. Kids these days should also at least hear about them. It's kinda when your dad tell's you what kind of music he used to dedicate his life to Total Annihilation got boring fast. I agree Red Alert was better simply because I wasted more time on it. Supreme Commander however... Bah, supreme commander also got boring very fast. Tiberian Sun is still more expensive than Supreme Commander. Bought TS for 179kr,- just yesterday, while I saw SP to the silly price of 25kr,- Even games like Diablo2, WC3 and CS Anthology is sold massively in my country, while newer games drag out of the market quickly. Im still looking for RA. (I love having an extra plastic wrapped copy of my favorite games ) Edited June 20, 2009 by Stevie_K Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 20, 2009 Bah, supreme commander also got boring very fast. True, but not as fast as Red Alert 3. Red Alert 1 and 2 remained fun many times longer than RA3 for me. ...Hmm, in fact, I think I played Total Annihilation more than RA3. Share this post Link to post
