RA3 Uprising: Can't Save to File Server

I've looked at the above stickied topic, but it doesn't address a known problem with your default "my documents" being placed on another network location (ie. fileserver).

I've tried these instructions, but I'm still having trouble....

http://forums.techarena.in/video-games/1117530.htm

Problem Description

  • Unable to save progress in campaign mode. The message "Error: Unable to save" appears, without further details.
  • In skirmish mode, the game crashes after a few minutes, back to Windows desktop

Explanation

  • The problem may be that your personal folder is on another machine, such as a linux server or domain controller Winows.
  • Unlike his predecessors as Command & Conquer 3 + The wrath of Kane, or The Battle for Middle-earth, Red Alert 3 is unable to create the tree dedicated to safeguarding your profile when your personnel file is located on another machine. Simply create the tree for him.

Procedure

  • In your home folder, create a "Red Alert 3"
  • In this folder, create the folder "Profiles" and "Replay"
  • In the folder "Profiles", create a folder with the name you specified when you first start the game
  • In this folder, create the folder "Savegames"

In place of the "Athalia," you have the folder with the name of the player.

Conclusion

Hoping that it might be useful to others!

So I've personally tried that, but it's not working. Maybe someone can help me with my situation, and then update the sticky?

I think its clear that the game simply doesn't support having its key files stored on a network location.

ok... but is there a work-around?

Do I create a fake "my documents" on my c drive? I don't know if I tried that...
