MIX Files

I've added new shp files to my RA2 which i downloaded from The Editing Source.

My question is, how do i get the game to load my MIX file? I have my MIX file named "YandoMod.mix", it doesnt work. Neither does throwing the shp files into the game directory.

Currently its working since i dumped everything into "cameo.mix" which i know could cause some problems.

There's a reason why it doesn't work. You're not following the naming convention. You should be using expand(md)##.mix with ## being above 10 so as not to interfere with the TX, Ares, mod patches and the like. Then you can use ecachestring.mix where string is any group of characters.

So does expand12.mix work?

So i just ddump all of my current files into that expand12.mix?

also wat is the difference between that and ecachestring.mix?

expand12 would work fine, but only for Red Alert 2. You need the md suffix for it to work with Yuri's Revenge. ecache files work for both, hence why you do not need the md suffix.

 

Expand and ecache have different uses, though this up for much debate. I generally use expand for voxels and their corresponding HVAs, INI files, EVA voices, interface element SHPs, map files and loading screen elements (SHP, palette and flag PCX) and then I use ecache for the rest of the SHPs, and cameos. While you do not have to do this, I find it works better. Put simply, you can put everything in expand and it will work.

Thanks, i'll go with expand12.

I don't need the md suffix cause i dont have Yuri's Revenge.

 

Edit:

It seems that dumping all of the stuff im using into expand12.mix crashes the game whenever i build something. :huh:

It took me about half an hour to figure out what to separate into ecache.mix and expand12.mix

It took me about half an hour to figure out what to separate into ecache.mix and expand12.mix

When you have the IE window pop up, post the except.txt that is generated in your \RA2\ directory. I can read them to an extent and point you in the right direction. In most cases anyway.
