APOC Comments on C&C 4 Lobby/Main Menu Crash

Recommended Posts

An isolated number of players are still experiencing crashing issues when loading up the main menu or entering the lobby in Command & Conquer 4. APOC has been busy on the Official C&C Forums today and posted this update. In short, a patch is the works and this new patch will include some new multiplayer maps.

Just wanted to let you guys know, we are fully aware of the lobby/main menu crash and have identified what we believe is the core root issue. This is in regards to those getting the "frame rate" dropped error message, and/or crashing primarily right when the game loads in.

This IS NOT related to connection with the server errors that you experience randomly during a match. We're assessing that issue as well, but I would strongly encourage you to check your ISP provider as well. Yes, that is quite obvious, but I have to say it because that could be the culprit as well, unfortunately.

We're working on a patch that addresses the lobby crash errors and also includes some new MP maps and a host of other bug fixes. This patch will not be out tomorrow, just to set expectations, but I will have a further update on Monday.

Apologies for this inconvenience, we will address as quick as we can.

Further down in the same thread, APOC also mentioned that the Worldbuilder for Command & Conquer 4 could be release close to the end of this month or in early April. The original thread can be found here.

While browsing the Official C&C Forums I've noticed people offering their own ways to fix connection/crash issues with Command & Conquer 4. Some of these include posting links to their own unofficial manual patches or suggesting that you delete/edit Windows system files. CNCNZ.com recommends that you not try any of these. Have some patience and wait for an official fix from EALA. If you were to use any of these unofficial fixes you could run into more problems when the official update arrives.

What a bummer. I wish EA could hotfix faster. Like straight from the oven. So much bureaucracy. :banghead::furious::badpc:

The thing is, despite all the reports and posts about the crashing its only an isolated problem. There are many players able to play problem free. On the day of release here in NZ I had the game drop back to the desktop 3 times. Twice on the main menu and once during the SP campaign. Since then its been 100% fine.

If your internet connection is crap, or your ISP is rubbish you can hardly blame EA for that.

And the thing with patches. They can't just make a change to the game and release the patch. They have to be tested thoroughly to make sure the patch doesn't break anything else in the game.

No, but you can blame them for going ahead with this system knowing full well that a lot of people don't have great connections.
