I never noticed those ears... but the scale/perspective of this unit makes it look like an infantry unit.

 

So what *are* those ears.

 

(I kinda like this concept, so I'm suprised that I didn't recognise it... I guess the lack of the tell-tale shield makes it hard... but it's a shame the avatar doesn't get the shield upgrade to protect it from frontal laser attacks.... rather than this more basic unit.)
