CnCSaga.de Interviews EA_CIRE

Recommended Posts

CnCSaga.de have posted a new interview with the new C&C Community Manager, EA_CIRE. Its one of those who is he and get to know him type of interviews. Here's part if it.

You are now Global Community Manager of EA, respectively Command and Conquer.

A very difficult task, if you behold the person afore: APOC. Which feelings cause this and how does your new task feel?

There is one thing in which I’ve already beaten APOC – I am taller! But seriously, I know what footsteps he left behind and I have to try my best to fill them. It is a great feeling and a huge honor to be APOC’s successor. It also feels good to work with this great team to form the future of C&C. Everybody saw how disappointed the community was with C&C4, and that makes me even more anxious to see the reaction of the C&C community once we reveal the new project we’re working on.

Before you were promoted to Global Community Manger, you were CM for the German fans and the German Command and Conquer Community. You had a direct line to the German pages and a good deal more. How does your new task differ from your old one and do you already miss your old position?

Being a local Community Manager is quite different. One big thing I like about my new job is the fact that I am involved in many more decisions. That gives me the opportunity to achieve far more than was possible as local CM. But a blade has still two sides – There is much more to do and the decisions are even harder because they can have a really great impact in either a positive and negative way. So you have to think twice before doing a call.

That's what I wanted to hear, really. Pointing out there are still people there who worked on RA1 is great to know. So they maybe kept the accountant or the props buyer? Or catering? The important creative guys are gone. Support for older games won't happen, nothing new here. And this community is the greatest, even though obviously it's not, it's divided and heavily disappointed. Closing a few good doors while keeping the bad doors open.

Alas, the interview is all ponys and rainbows, no critical questions at all, and the answers just stay meaningless drivel revealing nothing new, but leaving much room for self-praise. So we at least got to know him. No questions regarding a path out of this misery, no questions regarding his previous achievements in the community, nothing.

Here is a YouTube video that was posted in the German interview thread: EA_Cire Interview Disection.

He said that patching old C&C's is lame. Then why does Blizzard do that, as the most successful RTS/RPG developer? Why just two years ago Starcraft: Brood War got patch 1.16.1, and the game is 14 years old! :o

But I agree with what he said about EA considering C&C being just a prefix for games that are totally meant for earning money. That's why they made Generals.

Gens was a good game though, I was ticked that it wasn't a classical C&C at the time but god damn, Zero Hour is probably the most played C&C for me. EA could at least open the games up... or give them out, or just be a bit more supportive towards its "legacy" titles.

Yea, interview doesn't have a lot of substance, but it's nice for a simple, welcome interview I guess.
