Multiplayer won't work with RA95

I recently reinstalled Red Alert 95 on my computers. After much searching and trying, I learned there were patches available. I first installed 1.08 when looking for a way to play on Windows XP. When I thought about Game Spy arcade to play online, they said I needed 3.03. I downloaded it from CNCNZ.

The Problem is, my computers won't detect each other in RA95. They won't detect other players over Game Spy Arcade either. I have the same problem with RA2.

My computer runs windows XP. It's hooked to internet by a cable modem and a router. I use windows' firewall.

Does someone know whats wrong and how I could fix it? Or a way around the problem?

Thanks

I found that by using a network number, I could see other players in network. But they disappear when they create a game. I think I saw this problem in another topic.

The network number is used for IPX/SPX, in this protocol's properties, within a network connection's properties.

Thanks for the TCP/IP Idea anyway. I'll try this one too

I found the problem for network playing, at least. I had attributed the same network number for both computers, assuming it meant a network name. While chatting, the program repeated everything we said like we were talking to ourselves. I then changed the network number of one of my 2 computers, and it works!

No need for TCP/IP or a virtual serial tom play a LAN game in XP.

Just attribute a network number. control panel -- network -- (your connection to network) -- Properties -- select IPX protocol -- Properties. Just change your Internal network number for something else than 00000000. If you didn't understand, sorry. I use the french version of windows XP.

I can finally play a LAN with my brother. Haven't tried it online yet, like on Gamespy Arcade.
