Choppy multiplayer

I am trying to play a network game with a friend but about 10 minutes into the game, our game runs extremely choppy. Both our computers surpass the minimum requirements for the game and the game starts out fine. Happens on all maps, at random times. Just wondering what you guys think. Not sure if its a firewall problem. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks

we are on a 100mgb lan, and both computers are alienware 2.7ghz geforce 6800gt, 1g of ram.

What map is it? if its one of the infinate money ones youve all prob made too many tanks :?

It seems we have found the root of the problem, the game is just coded poorly, we can play small maps 2-4 person w/o too much slow downs but when we play the 8 person maps the game just runs choppy, i guess there is just no way around it.
