how do i convert, for example, the obelisk firing into .wav format and saving it on my desktop?

Use XCC Mixer. Find the sound in sounds.mix, Open the middle column, browse to the place you want to puit the WAV file, right-click on the obelisk firing sound and select "Copy as WAV"
