need some help with Generals on my laptop

Recommended Posts

I am trying to play Generals on my laptop but find the graphics run terribly slow. I have a Fujitsu P5010. Does anyone know of any patches or drives that I can use to try to speed up the game? At the moment I am just running the stock standard drivers that came with the laptop.

What video do you have?

Does your laptop meet the minimum system requirements for Generals?

When using a Laptop to play Generals you run into some inherrant graphics issues.

1) Most Laptops (unless you bought a high end desktop replacement) will not have the chipsets required to run Generals.

2) LCD displays update slower than CRT's.

That being said, try this:

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and switch the display from LCD to external CRT.

Run the game.

If it still seems sluggish, there is a good chance that you don't have a supported video chipset.

If you get a chance, please post your Laptop Specs!

Here's mine:

Winbook J4

3.0 Ghz

1Gb Ram

ATI Radeon Mobility 9500 Video Card (64Mb Ram)

60Gb Hard Drive

This Laptop was advertised as a Desktop replacement and does a very good job.

Good Luck!

Thanks all...

My laptop has an Intel Pentuim M 900Mhz. Only 256 Ram though... the display specs are Intel 82855 GME Graphics controller. Said to be about the equivalent of a G-force 4 MX440.... which should be more than capable of running CnCG.

Actually, you are right on the edge of the Specs! I think your main problem is your video card. Equivalent isn't always "the same as"! I think your video card is the problem.

I HAD to get a newer Laptop in order to satisfy the Video Requirements. Based on your post, my guess is that your computer is a bit old and doesn't meet the Video Specs.

Here's one last ditch effort recommendation:

Try to update your Video Drivers.

Good luck!

The Intel 82855 GME chip is unfortunately nowhere near the equivalent of a GF4MX-440. It is an extremely slow 3D performer, and I highly doubt it has the 'grunt' to run Generals. The upside is that it is very power-efficient :)

Sucks I know, but look at it this way - it's an excuse to upgrade :D

I'm a bit late on this, but, I have a p4 3.06g, 512mb DDR333, GEForceFX 5200go 64mb DDR Dell Inspiron 5150. Sucker has 2 fans in it to disperse all the heat too! Generals and ZH play great on it, but I had to use the -noshellmap command because it would mess up the screen with it on. Otherwise, no problems at all. :D
