Generals install problems

Recommended Posts

Guest Acidgunner

Hi, I have tried many things trying to install generals on my new comp and every time it still ends up where it asks for the cd check no matter what. I have contacted EA but everything they came up with was of no use. I am wondering if my SATA HD has anything to do with it. I have tried the following:

1)discs in another comp>worked

2)another cd-rom on my comp>failed

3)updating drivers and firmware on my comp for EVERYTHING>failed

4)taking files off of cd then installing from hd>faster install but failed

5)installing then repairing>failed

My specs are:

AMD Barton 2600+

1 Gig DDR 3200

120 Gig SATA HD

Lite On 16x 48x cd-rom

Geforce FX 5600 Ultra 128 MB

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think having an SATA hard drive would make any difference. Unless you can test it on another PC with an SATA hard drive.

What things did EA Tech Support ask you to try?

Have a look at http://free.hostdepartment.com/s/skyhigh911/generals.html#2) under the Installation section and try the solutions there. Good site that so check the rest of it.

Do you have VIA Chipset on your motherboard?

If so, if you haven't already get the latest Hyperion 4in1 Drivers from http://www.cncnz.com/files/support/drivers.shtml#via

Yeah, I've already tried everything that site said but my problem isn't really the installation, it's the fact that no matter how I install it, it always asks for the cd. I have an NForce chipset w/the newest drivers.

EA told me to:

try another cd-rom - didn't work

install a patch to help read safe disk - didn't work

try on another computer - worked

install new firmware for my cdrom - didn't work

install from hd - didn't work

I guess this means that the game is either missing a file or it just refuses to recognize the cd.

I know the problem isn't the cd's and probably not the cd-rom. The game installs completely and I can play if I use a no cd patch, but I want it to be able to work fully without having to use a no cd patch. I have Zero Hour and it gives me the same error so I just used the patch and I can play, but everyone else on my LAN has to install the no cd patch if I am to play with them (Data mismatch error). I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks.
