High Ping in Multiplayer

I just got C&C:Generals with the Zero hour expansion kit, and when i try to play online it says my ping is over 500. I have cable and play many other games (ghost recon, AA, Rise of Nations) online and have no such ping problem, usually it is under 140. Whats the deal?

A high ping in Generals Online can be caused by a few factors such as your connection, your ISP, a firewall on your PC or your simply to far away from the game server.

 

I've heard of reports about some high ping bug in Generals and when people try to play regardless of the pings it plays fine anyway.
