Your system is just over the minimum required system specifications to run Generals so you will need tweak your settings in the game.

Also make sure that your display drivers and Direct X are up to date. You can download the latest Nvidia display drivers and Direct X from this page on our site, http://www.cncnz.com/files/support/drivers.shtml

Hey Man,

Its really messed up like i know the computer is capable of it cause when i press escape and bring up the opaque menu, the scenery in the background is perfect shows the land to be the color it should be....????

Kinda funny EA tech support hasnt gotten back to me in like 4 days but someone gets back to me instantly on this site... hmmm bookmarked, lol.

Ive tried setting all the custom settings and changing all of those... another wierd thing... i have ran generals on this computer before months ago and it worked fine????????? then i buy my own and its crazy...???

Yeah I agree with you Sonic It is a driver and video card issue just like there was a problem that someone saw invisible C&C generals units because they had a old driver/video card and needed it to be updated or buy a new one.

if you have NO powers on quick tabs on the right side of the screen your ground is black. if you have 1 or more and the top is in the regeneration stage you get ground back. if your power is ready to use like the american satalite thingy is in the begening of the game when you use it and it goes back to regeneration the ground reapears?

if im right what video card? processor memory and motherboard.

I have a geforce2 gts, amd (may be culperate) barton. nforce2 and now corsair memory

seems video driver 45.23 or so is needed for all geforce cards to properly work... includes serous errors and the screen going black :D

got it working by using those drivers

it seems to be your video card is too old... before i had a gf2 mx200 64 MB vid card and i had the same problem. i bought a gf3 ti200 64 MB DDR and upgraded to nvidia driver 53.03, now everything is fine. hope this helps.

After I upgraded to the new version of ZH, the past couple days when I play skirmish, in the middle of the game the screen will just go black, although I can still play and select and all, but no graphics.

This was not an issue before the latest upgrade to the game. The patch needs a patch, period.

I have a P4 2.6C, ATI 9600 Pro, 512 PC3200 RAM.

Latest drivers for vid card were installed when I got it about 2 months ago.

Also it does not go black over my own base, just mostly areas that are in the middle of the map or on the other side opposite my base.

And no its not about uncovering the area, because I currently have my own tanks IN front of my face on the screen and it just plain goes black.

The only change I Have made is the upgrade/patch.

Seems to have something to do with being able to see the map in areas other than where your own structures are. I can still select tanks and make them do stuff and all that, and the health indicators and other indicators still work. Just the graphics are gone.

I have the same problem! And the strange thing is: The game worked before! On the same computer!. All of a sudden, after I installed it again after a couple of months, the ground is black! The only thing that makes any kind of sence is that my drivers now are TOO new! right???

The ground being black indicates a broken link to a texture file. Have you tried re-installing the game? Are you using any mods or conversions of the game? These can wreak havoc on the art files.

Same problem as many mentioned above. Had a friend tell me that he knew someone too with the same problem and fixed it by going back to 45.23 nvidia drivers. I tried it with 53.03, 52.16 and 45.23 and guess what, only 45.23 would work perfectly. Guess sometimes too new a driver combined with too old a card (GeForce2 Pure) is not a good combo!

I have the same exact problem. I have the nVidia geforce 2 mx. I was always able to play the game without issue a few months ago on the same system, but now the ground appears black (or sometimes white, and sometimes they switch back and forth. very annoying). The only difference between now and then is my updated nVidia driver. I haven't tried going back to the old driver and I wouldnt even know where to get the old driver... if anyone knows where to get a driver that works with Generals please let me know, or preferrably if there's another solution to this problem, I'd love to know what it is.
