C&C: The First Decade and TibEd 1.6

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I installed TFD and shortly thereafter I was looking for a money cheat for RA1. After much searching I stumbled across TibEd 1.6 with updates for TFD.

Before I mention my issue, I want to say what a fantastic editor this is. I have used many editors before for many games, but nothing close to the ease of use and comprehensiveness of TibEd 1.6. What fun it is and going to be to play these games over and over with different parameters. Particularly giving the enemy weird weps and abilities that make the game challenging and new again and again. Ok, enough newbie excitement...

Regardless, I got through with RA1 and begain modding just fine. I then moved on to RA2, but my changes to the rules.ini file did not take effect. I opened rules.ini in the TFD RA2 folder and saw my test change. My test is to change the growth of Tiberium from every 5 minutes to every 0.1 minute. As soon as you get into the game and look at any tiberium, you can see it growing / moving like spilled orange juice on a slanted table.

I tried cutting and pasting the "general" section into the arts.ini, but it was not recognized there either. RA2 runs fine, but it is the installed version of the rules that are playing.

Since RA1 TibEd changes worked fine and I lauch RA2 from TibEd, the folder recognition is occuring.

I have uninstalled TibEd and reinstalled it. I have poked around the forum looking for things I could do such as install XCC which updated the Westwood registry keys. All to no effect.

My system is fairly standard. XP w/ SP2. Lots of RAM / P4.

Well I hope some guru will share there ideas about what tasks I could perform to get TibEd going with RA2. I don't want the fun to stop.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Charles

Let's try to track this down. Can you try a different change with more clear semantics?

E.g. changing the cost of a unit/building, and running a skirmish game (not a mission) and see if the changes take effect?

I tried your suggestion. I changed the cost of several buildings and went to a skirmish game in RA2. It worked. The building costs were changed. I saved the game and got back out to TibEd and changed tiberium growth rate and the wepons for the GI and Grizzly tank. That change did not take effect. In one change I gave the Grizzly a V2 rocket as a primary wep. I tried to fire it and got an abnormal termination box saying the game encountered an exception and needed to close.

The changes (including the price changes) did not take effect when I loaded my prior saved missions. The standard rules were in play.

Perplexing.

Your thoughts?

Charles

I think I know what is going wrong. You see, when you save your game, the rules.ini settings are stored in your saved game. If you want them to take effect in a mission, you have to restart the mission, then it wil pick them up.

And like you've experienced, not all settings are sane (like the V2 on a Grizzly), leading to crashes. The V2 weapon is rather special with it's missile and all (special logic) which the Grizzly probably doesn not have.

You are correct again. All is well. Thanks again for your comments.
