Tree 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Me and King were talking today, and we brought up some good points. Here's the CNC-related part. Trevor - There's been so many ups and down with the community Trevor - It'll go back up once the new CNC is thrown out. Assuming it doesn't suck :-/ C&C King - Trying not to be an EA basher, but it has been their fault the community has been ditched to the gutter Trevor - Yep C&C King - the final blow for many people was BfME2, the community lost alot of people when that was announced Trevor - Yeah C&C King - suprisingly, alot have come back going EA rocks! I'm like OK, so much for your loyalty, come back when it suits ya Trevor - Exactly. C&C King - I think C&C 10 saved a fair amount of the community. That's not my ego going off, but it helped uplift alot of souls Trevor - Yeah, quite a few peoplpe were involved in that, ad it helped C&C King - it just kept people's hopes alive, and now we have the proof to support that Trevor - Yeah C&C King - I did say though, back in an interview during the C&C 10 week that'd be another 6-8 months, and I was dead on the money with my prediction Trevor - Yep. Trevor - Sadly C&C King - I didn't know, but that the BfME2 community summit last year, I knew something was up Trevor - Yeah Trevor - EA is just going to slowly phase out CNC C&C King - I hope not, I have personal contact with Aaron Kaufman, and he knows I tell stuff to him straight C&C King - he hates it, cos I really do tell it straight, but constructively of course C&C King - not like those on the official forums and *COUGH*CnC Den*COUGH* Trevor - Yeah. But when the new one comes out, we'll be lucky if we get one after it. I just don't think that CNC is profitable enough for EA and their monster hits. Trevor - Trevor I've never liked that place C&C King - The community leaders would come down on EA like a tonne of bricks if they tried, it would not be pretty C&C King - and the moment I see those words, "we are commited to the C&C franchise" once again, I'll instantly know everything is peachy Trevor - Yeah, but why would the community hurt EA? They have tons of other franchises to worry about C&C King - text book answers are all they can provide, and that's only gonna fool most of us once C&C King - well, I'm solidly rooted in confidence that we'll see another 10 years at least C&C King - by that I mean that EA will finish the Tiberian Storyline before they kill it Trevor - Yeah. But I mean, there's not a whole lot that the community can do to EA. "We won't buy your games." Well that's alright, there's another 5 million Sims fans that will. C&C King - and if they do it then, then fine, at least the Saga would be complete Trevor - Yeah C&C King - Red Alert can live in hell, as long as we see the end of the GDI, NOd, Scrin Fued. I'll be as happy as anything Trevor - C&C King - I give the franchise a maximum of another 15 years C&C King -minimum, probably 8 or 9 Trevor - That's way too generous. I give it at max 8. Probably 5. Trevor - I love CNC, I really do. But I just don't think that EA is a big fan of it C&C King - I think C&C 4 will be the next game anyhow, if they follow the BfME2 tradition C&C King - maybe not, but why buy out Westwood if they weren't a big fan of it C&C King - it can be considered dangerous ground to kill the franchise that made RTS Trevor - They were a threat maybe? That seems to be what Microsoft and IBM do to anyone who gets big/ Trevor - That's a good point there C&C King - personally I don't think that anyone remotely related to RTS games would stand for C&C being killed off C&C King - that includes media types, other communities etc. Trevor - If those people were here to see RTS born, then yes. But there's a lot of people who came in on RA or RA2, and said "Whee, this is fun' and then shelved it C&C King - true, the real vets are a dying breed Trevor - Yep Trevor - That's mostly what fuels my pessimistic view on the CNC lifespan C&C King - well if EA manage to make this game a hit, and continue to do so. At least when it does go, we can hang up our websites and say, it was good times Trevor - Right. I'm hoping that the next one will be a hit. And many more after that. Trevor - But EA's a corporation. In it for the money. C&C King - there are people there who do genuinely care. OK there are only 6 people left from the Westwood team, but I think they've managed to rub off some magic onto them Trevor - Yeah. Or we hope so anyway C&C King - we'll see by 2007, the quality of the game will instantly determine that factor C&C King - as well as the aftermarket support, which in EA reputation is crap Trevor - Right. Patch after patch after patch :-/ C&C King - not as bad as Westwood with TS though, that game was virtually unplayable when i first got it Trevor - Yeah Trevor - Well, I'ma go grab some dinner. Be back in a few Trevor - Good talking to you, man C&C King - k, and u too, good to have an intelligent conversation Trevor - Yeah, it was. Good for a change C&C King - cya for now Trevor - Later Summary: I'm thinking the CNC franchise is dead in 5 years. Tops. King gives it 8, minimum. If someone wants to format it better, go ahead. edit complete - C&C King  Share this post Link to post
WhOIsInTeResTed InMyNaMe? 0 Posted June 8, 2006 agree with King, EA isn't a fan of CnC, just took an example like CnC Generals, for me its a good game, but it doesn't belongs to the CnC (classic) universe, the game-play is more like Warcraft3, you don't have the side bar, MCV, etc. I think that EA will carry the next CnC games to the most popular RTS, and it won't be the same that the clasics CnC games, but anyway CnC wll survive with us playing it, and of course in CNCNZ  Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted June 8, 2006 You know how many times you said Yeah and Yep, Tree? I do the same damn thing while talking to C&C King though... Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Meh. CNC just isn't profitable enough for EA. They're used to multi-million dollar hits like The Sims and Madden. CNC just doesn't have that fan base anymore and it's because EA is taking so long. Essentially, they killed their own franchise. Share this post Link to post
