I can't get Renegade to work!

Hey Guys-

 

I've been having this problem with installing Renegade on my computer for a long time. I once had the game installed no problem, but then my video card crapped out on me so I deleted the game. Now I'm trying to re-install the game, but everytime I try to start up the installer, it crashes on me. I see the window for a second (although there is nothing in it) and it says "(not responding)" at the top, and it asks me to send in the error report. I have XP with a Geforce 3 ti Video card. I've tried to reinstall Windows on a seperate hard drive, and I still get the same problem somehow. In the error report, it says something about WTSAPI.DLL or something like that at the bottom, which I'm assuming that was what caused the crash. I really want to play the game again, but because the installer won't even start for me, I can't...

 

Can anyone help me?

When you say your video card "crapped" out on you I assume you replaced it with a new card?

 

If that is the case make sure your display drivers are up to date, since you have a GeForce3 and Windows XP grab the latest version of the NVIDIA ForceWare drivers (thats the name now) from http://www.cncnz.com/files/support/drivers.shtml.

No, I actually didn't replace the video card. All the drivers are updated for it. The problem with the video card is that when a game runs, it has this double vision thing that happens if the video card is running full force. If I turn it down in the troubleshooting tab a notch, it works fine.

VIA P4PA Motherboard

Geforce 3 Ti 450/TV (128 MB)

From the sounds of it I'd say your video card may need replacing.

A GeForce 4 Ti 4200 can be purchased very cheaply these days so hunt around for something like that.

Well, I tried re-downloading and installing the drivers for the third time in the last couple of months, and now it seems to be working perfectly fine. I tried "Return to castle Wolfenstein" and there was no double vision like before. I'd really rather not replace the videocard, then find out that it did nothing for my problem... I'm fairly sure it doesn't relate to that since the program is crashing, but its hard to know for sure.

 

Any last ideas?
