Woofna 0 Posted February 6, 2007 Playing at mid-level on Renegade for years, I have learned some tricks that I see a lot of people neglecting. I usually get first to fourth place in games with around 20-30 people in them. I want to tell you what I know, and in turn, I want you all to post your own. Tip 1: Alternate between first and third person! Don't stick to one or the other like many say ... each has it's advantage! Third person is great for seeing around corners and awareness, while I find first person better for accuracy. Tip 2: Don't underestimate the 500 sniper! Deadeye and the BHS are half the price of a Sak or Havoc, so you can replace them easier if you die. A headshot from the 500 sniper is no less lethal than one from a Ramjet! You also have a more forgiving rate of fire than a Ramjet, and you usually cannot tell where the sniper rifle shot came from. 500 snipers are also somewhat effective against Arties, MLRS, and aircraft. They make a BIG dent in their health! You may not make the kill, but you WILL assist a kill and you will definitely chase them away for repairs, at which point headshot the pilot or repair aid! Tip 3: Mammoth Tanks are usually a waste. Medium tanks are faster and more dependable. I have been killed in a Mammy by one guy in a light tank. You WILL be outmaneuvered. Mammoths are only good if you rush two or three of them. There are exceptions, but having 1500 credits doesn't mean "OMGZ MAMMY TIME!" Tip 4: TEAMWORK Teamwork ALWAYS wins renegade. Usually, you see "mercenary play". Players want the high score, so they go off and boost their score. I have NEVER seen a team that worked together lose Renegade. Organized rushes and distractions are pure beauty. I wish Renegade had voice teamspeak. Coordinated attacks ALWAYS WIN RENEGADE. Tip 5: TEAMWORK Seriously. I cannot stress this enough. Organized teams will not EVER lose Renegade. Tip 6: Get a SBH and aquire a sniper rifle. Pwnage. Tip 7: (Co-op specific) GET THE BIG 4 You want the following guns. -RAMJET RIFLE -PERSONAL ION CANNON/RAILGUN -VOLT AUTO RIFLE -Maintenence tool (That's the fast repair gun) Getting these four guns makes for excellent teamplay and versatility. Most other guns are a waste, especially if they take up space in your laser weapons slot. I like being able to hit "7" and grab a repair gun to heal. The Ramjet is simply the best in the hands of someone with decent aim, it takes out most anyone with 1 shot in co-ops, bodyshot or headshot is irrelevant. Stop grabbing every gun you see! Also, the Volt Auto rifle comes in two flavors, Nod's purple and GDI's blue. Irrelevant to the functionality of the weapon, these feautures make the Volt Auto Rifle two individual guns. This means TWICE THE AMMO if you get both. Remember that! Tip 8: REFILL! Refilling is great, especially when you aquire a weapon from a killed enemy or a comrade, because you refill EVERYTHING, not just your stock weapon. This is VERY usefull on co-op servers. After you stock up on weapons, refill so they're all at max ammo. Tip 9: Load that pistol! Especially for engineers, the pistol IS useful. And when you start with a new class or at all in Renegade, your pistol is unloaded. So when you whip it out, you have to wait 3 seconds to load it. 3 seconds can kill you, and I have personally taken out 2 havocs with one engineer pistol. Headshots are necessary with that pistol. So, whenever you start with a fresh character, press "1" and allow your character to load that pistol! You may need it later. Tip 10: Got a railgun AND a pic? USE TEH RAILGUN! Why? The PIC, when fired, tells you EXACTLY where the shooter is, and THAT the person being shot at is definitely being shot at with a specialized anti-vehicle character. That makes you aware! The railgun is so much more discreet, and it does the exact same damage. Unless you're watching your health, you won't notice you're being hit by a railgun because it looks like a regular bullet. And you usually can't tell where it came from. Also: The railgun/PIC are NOT more effective vs. infantry than the ramjet. They do the same damage, but the Ramjet has a much greater ROF and unlimited range. Yes, the PIC and Railgun DO have a range limit, a relatively shallow one at that. The PIC/Railgun do NOT do more damage versus infantry. Tip 11: STOP SHOOTING THAT TANK! Sniper rifles and ramjet rifles are effective against aircraft, buggies/hum-vees, arties, MLRS, and are a tiny bit effective versus STANKS. For a STANK, you can usually see it in the scope, and shooting it makes it sparkle, making it visible to teammates. So you're really marking it. But I so often see havocs and saks shooting at tanks! STOP THAT! You have shallowly limited ammo, and you're not doing enough damage to justify using it, unless the tank has 6 hp left and is on the run. Focus on watching for engineers or technicians/hotwires around the tank. Taking them out is the purpose of the class. Sometimes it is also more effective for a PIC/Railgun character to take out the engineer or techie/hotwire as well. Hell, for ANYONE, taking out that repair class will be ammo better used than shooting at the tank. Tip 12: Got surplus funds? DONATE! This goes along with teamwork. If you have more than 1000 creds, look for people who need money. Press TAB and see the credits of your teammates. Donate the low ones money. Buy them tanks. A single medium tank could change the balance of the game! Everyone is a potential pilot, engineer/techie, sniper, or whatever. Help them get there. If you KNOW someone is a much better sniper than yourself, give them your 1000 for a havoc or sakura, and so forth. TEAMWORK ALWAYS WINS RENEGADE. Tip 13: RELOAD CONSTANTLY! Every time you have a spare second, reload. Reloading makes it so you can replace your ammo with pickups, and keeps your clip size optimized. Keep that clip at 100, soldier! That's all I can think of at the moment. Share this post Link to post
