Connection timeout - 2 player

Recommended Posts

Guest ooshicha

Hi Guys

I wonder if anybody can help

I am trying to test to see if Generals will network on my wireless peer to

peer network (laptop - pc) before I buy a second copy of the game.

I am starting the game using disk 1 on each machine going to multiplayer and

testing the connection between machines.

At present

the PC shows the PC and Laptop

the Laptop only shows itself.

If Laptop sends a message it can be seen by PC

If PC sends a message Laptop cannot see it.

It makes no difference which machine has the disk in..

If attempted games are started a connection time out appears.

I have checked the send delay and tried differing IP configurations

including the direct connection.

At present the LAN IP settings are not identical, the last set of digits

differ.

I am using XP home edition with Firewall set off on both machines.

I also use Tiny Personal Firewall and have the game .EXE file and game .DAT

file in unrestricted areas, for Firewall and the game .EXE unrestricted in

Windows Security settings.

I have not installed any patches .. these are both clean installs.

The Laptop has both Generals and Zero Hour Installed ... the PC only has

Generals installed.

Both machines see each other for normal network use.

I hope thats enough information

I would be gratefull for any help.

Derek

Can't really help with the network stuff sorry but I do know that you need 2 legal copies of Generals for multiplayer games.

Basically its 1 copy per computer.

Maybe that has something to do with the timeout problem

You can play the game with one copy of the game - I do that. The reason you can't play is because one is Generals and one is Zero Hour - install Zero Hour on the other comp and it'll work. If you still have problems, try turning the firewall off completely.

I have tried all of this and the same situation persists.

Has anybody else experienced a similar problem.
