How many copies of this latest worm thing did you get in your inbox?

Anyway, found this interesting article about this latest cyber attack as the media have called it. For those who don't know what Mydoom is....

The Mydoom worm, also known as Novarg and Mimail.R, is a mass-mailing worm that arrives via email as an attachment with one of several possible file extensions, including .bat, .cmd, .exe, .pif, .scr or .zip. When a user opens the attachment, his computer becomes infected. The worm is apparently designed to attack the SCO website (http://www.sco.com) beginning on February 1.

Another story mentions that a variant of MyDoom is out and its target is Microsoft's site: http://pcworld.co.nz/news.nsf/UNID/66FE4FA...8E?OpenDocument

What a screwed up world we live in these days

My main email account has been hit up with emails infected with this virus, but it hasn't had an effect because Orcon put virus filtering on their free email accounts, and it's caught every one thus far.

Good job Orcon :)

How about people who have active internet connections and no form of anti-virus protection.

A former work friend of mine once said to me that he doesn't get any viruses, I then asked him what anti-virus software he used, he said he doesn't use any

So he does he know he doesn't get any viruses?

Just wondering but umm..... how do you ID this worm.... Like what does the email say...

Cause in the past few days i've got about 10 of these sorts of emails...

The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment.

The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as a binary attachment.

I guess I'm popular... I have a few hundred copies of MyDoom already, and lots of "Mail delivery failed" messages where they're using my e-mail as a recipient... :(

Still, I get 10 times more SPAM than viruses so I guess it's not that bad yet ;)

I've often thought about shutting down some of e-mail accounts to cut the down flow of spam.

I'll continue to battle it all with the MailWasher program. Great program, everyone should try it - http://www.mailwasher.net

Used that, it works pretty well, but against current SPAM flood it's no longer effective. However, SpamPal is working quite well - about 90% is automatically tagged, and I think there are no false positives (which I had sometimes with MailWasher). Then again, I no longer check the SPAM folder often...

The more mail that MailWasher downloads the more effective it gets. I've been using it for around a year now and I've set up many filters in it and I've built my own database of blacklisted address that MailWasher uses.

Another good thing about MailWasher is the fact that its a New Zealand made program
