Insert first disk error

Recommended Posts

First off. I have C&C first decade. I also have generals and generals ZH single disks.... I think that's where my problem lie. I tried to install generals regular when I lost my first decade...it wouldn't install the first disk had a good sized scratch and it was taking forever...so dug deeper and found my old first decade. I try to boot up ZH and it gives me a junk error

junkerrorqk4.jpg

"Please insert the first disk"

So I try to uninstall, but I can't! it simply acts as if I never clicked the uninstall button. It will not let me uninstall from Control Panel, inside the game boot menu, or in the tab. I have deleted all of my TEMP folders and my temp internet files and even went as far as wiping out the folders that were in my documents.

on another note, generals does run but it won't let me get online with this crudd a dud dud message

junkerror2dm2.jpg

"Cannot connect to servers please check internet connection"

And so you know my computer specs..

"enough for the game as I've played the thing before"

I can't deleate generals because it's part of the Decade...There are no seperate generals things. When I click add/remove off of boot screen, it does nothing.

Also what registries? like in documents???

I tried something similar. With YR and the Decade Disc. They are not interchangeable.

To get rid of Generals and start afresh, jsut delete the entire Generals folder, or the entire Decade folder and start fresh. :) Ignore the registry crap, as once you reinstall it should sort itself out.

Alternatively you could use a third party program uninstaller.

Well nobody likes useless registry values lying around. :/

You can use a registry cleaner to fix that if you want, though the quality of the job is dependent on how good a cleaner you get. :)

I had that problem many times long ago, formatting or using software to hide Alcohol 120% were the only way to fix it.

Well I havn't been able to uninstal it I don't know how to do it without using the control panel tool and when I try to use that tool it doesn't let me uninstal first decade for some reason. Does anyone know of an alternate way to uininstal something maybe I should try it in safe mode, I havn't done that yet. So far no progress on anything though,. And I've already tried to deleate every file I could with the names of the game on it. Also generals will not get online still.

Well I went and did a search for manual uninstallation and there were a few parts missing from the end of the steps which leads me to believe the half the stuff the game needed were 'missing' On a strange note, when I went to reintall, it was still on my list of programs and I still could not uninstal, however it was down to 6,000,000MB...very strange lol. I'm currently reinstalling and it's moving forward I'll let you all know. I hope I did registries correctly, but I saved them on removable disk as well as documents just in case. On a side note, safe mode didn't work for uninstallation.

During installation I had an IOUP or something error which I foolishly shurgged off as i clicked OK then went about my reading on SOCOM CONFRONTATION...Sorry... anyways by the time I looked back down the installation progress had been destroyed. I'm going to go ahead and try try again.

UPDATE:

Sucess. After manually uninstalling the game using the step-by-step process depicted in EA Game's tech support area for PC COmmand and conquer first decade. deleating the folders assosiated with the game followed by deleateing the registries. GOOD TO GO. Thanks for all who used brain power to help me or make suggestions.

Did you say 6 MILLION megabytes? :S

What did I miss a decimal again??? Whoops oh well NASA didn't convert to english from metric and destroyed a multi billion dollar spacecraft so I dont' feel too bad.
