C&C Generals Turns 10 Years Old

Recommended Posts

Today is the 11th of February. 10 years ago, on the 11/02/2003, Command & Conquer Generals was released by EA Pacific, formally Westwood Pacific. It was the first C&C RTS that used the new 3D engine called the SAGE engine, an engine many of us would get to know in the years to come. Despite its popularity and success, C&C Generals was not universally accepted by many fans due to it being so different from Westwood's C&C games. Graphically, it was cutting edge, arguably better than anything on the market at the time. It was controversial in some market regions such as Germany and China. The game was banned in Germany to the point where a heavily modified version was made and released. The big question that C&C Generals gave us, was it really a Command & Conquer game?

And so here we are, 10 years later, waiting for C&C Generals' spiritual successor in the form of the new Command & Conquer - Free to Play game. After you have relived the original C&C Generals release trailer above, please share your C&C Generals memories with us in this news thread.

I was hoping that EA would release one more free C&C game, whether if it's C&C Red Alert 2, C&C Renegade or even C&C Generals/Zero Hour.

Generals was a great game, but not for its very buggy AI that no one was able to fix.
