Frank Klepacki: Behind the Music of Command & Conquer
recover replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
A good read. -
How can this be a conclusion at all if they are planning an expansion pack? I just hate it when they do that.

I don't know how much this have been in the media where you guys live, but here in Sweden it have been pretty much everywhere. From what I've read, the guys behind TPB are tired of being a symbol (for piracy/free speech/political stuff/etc), and they think they being such a big symbol actually hinders "progress". Right now, the fight "against" copyright is almost only fought in Sweden. You might have heard about The Pirate Party, which aims to "balance" copyright since it believes that copyright at the moment is an obstruct to innovation and progress. (more about this on their homepage) Anyway, TPB wants more torrent sites to open and force more countries to start discussing copyright, and if it really serves its purpose of maximizing culture (and not the other way around). This is why I think they did this. But, yes, I will mourn TPB too.

I like it! Too bad only one resolution is available. :/

C&C4's Net Connection Violates Gamer's Bill of Rights

I doubt EA will change this though. From what I read it looks like they have made up their mind. -
Possible Command & Conquer 4 Release Date
recover replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I have gotten the impression that once EA decides on a date, they generally decide to scrap features rather than delay the release date if they run out of time. Anyone got some facts? -
Finally someone put the Kane dance where it belongs. Very good remix.

I predict that there will be massive collectors editions for C&C4. -
C&C4 Designer Jeremy Feasel Answers Fans Questions
recover replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
It feels like he's dodging that one. One can assume from this answer that the rest of the classes won't be able to build anything at all. -
After having the C&C4 announcement sink in, I have some worries. I wonder how they will be able to tie all loose ends together in a satisfactory manner. If there's even a single loose end left after I've completed C&C4, I will be disappointed. That means I want explanations of all the questions we have asked ourselves over the years, like "Why did Kane do that?" Anything less than this, and I will not consider the game an epic conclusion. Epic is the highest you can aim for, and if I know EA right, they often use terms like 'epic' for marketing reasons, even if they don't actually reach that high. Sorry, but this is just how I feel.

Sounds interesting. I just hope C&C4 won't be the last we'll see of Joe Kucan.

Command & Conquer Mega-Bomb Drops in July
recover replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
My guess is that it's Louis Castle... again. I would prefer Brett Sperry. -
I want Frank to work on it without chains. Anything else and it wouldn't be epic.

I've read that it's way cheaper to pre-purchase it and do an upgrade from XP/Vista. The pre-purchase makes it cheaper, as does the upgrade. Look into that or you'll be sorry.

I agree. I never watch these, the full episode will be out in a few days anyway.

That's the spirit, put an end to our misery!

APB patch 3 already!
-
All I can say is: hmm.... And "a new scriptwriting team"? Don't say they've brought in some hotshot who will try to tell us his own interpretation.
-
Not too shabby at all.
-
I just caught Apoc reading this thread, so he might mention our wish.

We have all these great blog updates, but what we really need now is a new patch. -
Interview With the Original EVA - Kia Huntzinger
recover replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Excellent. I have always wanted to know more about her. I also want to know more about Brett Sperry, but as mentioned in the interview, he seems to be an extremely private person. It was unfortunate that she did not provide the voice for Eva in Tiberian Sun. I wonder if EA tried to get her to do the voice in C&C3, but I doubt it... -
Good old power structures. Looks great!

A port is when the source code is "ported" over to that platform, i.e. it runs natively. I think you might be thinking about emulation, which requires a lot more powerful hardware than a native application. Well... I can name some examples from the top off my head. id Software have always been true to the community by releasing the source code for their old games; quake, quake 2, quake 3, doom... the list goes on. Also, Relic released the source code for Homeworld (that game is really awesome btw). There are more companies, but a search on google would be better than asking me. The important point to make is that the companies are not hurt by releasing the source code... Releasing the source code does not mean that the game is gratis. It's only the source code for the executables which becomes free, not all the textures/maps/FMVs etc. A company who releases the source code for one of their game supports the community and empowers them to continue the legacy of the game when the company have no financial interest in the game anymore. In the case of TibDawn and RA1, these games are really, really old, so releasing the source code would have virtually no effect on EA as a company, they would only show that they care about us. But I guess that will never happen.

This is interesting. If this is indeed a complete port of the game, and not a rewrite, then I would say: nice initiative. I have been curious whether or not EA still has the source code for the older games... I mean, if they have it they should really have done something with it, or release it to the community (oh, I forgot we are talking about EA, they never release source code). I won't be as impressed if it turns out the game is just emulated somehow. In any case, I will look forward to more news!
