generals: zero hour problems

if indeed the problem is a memory leak, adding more ram is more of a band-aid for the problem, rather then a fix. i mean 512mb should be enough as the requirements state that it only requires 128mb. But yeah if it fixed your problem consider yourself lucky -

lol is funny alright. EA and the word patch are both mutually exclusive. -

The chances of EA releasing another patch is very remote. So by the sounds of it will have to make-do with what we got -

funneling type architecture, is used for maps with bridges or archways. it also is on some maps where the terrain is is very high and low. it enables the units to under bridges, and into Crevasses etc. that is my understanding of it -

one of the worse maps for the stuttering for me would have to be Mountain Fox, it basicly goes to an unplayable crawl on that map (3 AI on hard) -

i agree with fluke, on that about the maps, i play max players on any map (on hard), and the stuttering is only a problem on some maps, others are fine and i dont get any issues -

could it be the audio drivers? when you guys reformated did you get newer audio drivers. my friend fixed his problem with different audio drivers (older ones). having wrong ones on the system could be causing the problem -

if we could find out what is causing the problem, maybe we could write our own patch to fix the game. i say **** EA, they don't care about the customers, and only the buyers, so screw them. i read some arcticle that says the problem with the game.dat file. i see what i can do -

maybe is directx 9.0b?, maybe its when its installed straight onto XP, cause my last setup i had 8.0 (stock XP directx ) then 8.1, then 9.0 , then 9.0b in that order. There could be a missing file that generals needs or something -

it must be software, maybe VIA 4-in-1 drivers or directx. post what directx and chipset drivers you have installed? my stuttering problem started when i reformatted my computer (no hardware change), so its something that i installed or did before that didn't now -
i am out of ideas, maybe try installing redalert again without the patch

mmm... so its a router/switch, i use a billion Adsl modem router connected to a 10/100 switch (seperate unit), and driect connect works fine. i am not sure how it would handle the packets but it seems internal packets are getting put through firewall (how odd). Try to set the lan as DMZ that might fix the problem

Windows 98se has the service pack installed where has 98 dosen't. There have been network and IPX updates so i think maybe there is a mismatch between the IPX versions hence thats why only one computer can see both computers. the updates can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp First download and install the system update on the windows 98(not se) machine, it can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/ contents/WURecommended/systemupdate/Default.asp://http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/...ate/Default.asp://http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/...ate/Default.asp Then download all the Critical Updates and install them on both systems, there is some that target IPX issues so this could possibly fix your problem (they are in the first url under Critical Updates heading), and don't bother downloading the Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package there is no need after you have both system with the updates installed, try the game and it should work, if not let me know

i will need the specs of both systems, and the OS's on each. It seems like a network problem, but i can't be sure. i am assuming your running both IPX (use just 802.3) and TCP/ip with IP address staticly set. i could be because one machine has windows 98 SE and the other just has straight 98. either way there is a mismatch between the systems. Maybe computer 1 has 98se thats why it can see comp 2 (98) but comp2 cant see 98 se. just post the hardware and software so i can help you further
-
have you checked the IPX settings on both computers. make sure the ipx frame type is set to either 802.3 or Ethernet II on both computers. Also make sure that the Internal Network Number and Network Number are both set to 00000000 on both computers try that and see if RedAlert works on network

i think i have found a solution to the problem. install C&C generals, then Zero Hour, then Zero Hour 1.02 patch Do NOT install any of the C&C Generals Patches (1.07 etc), this was causing my problem, hope it helps by the way don't email EA support , they talk **** and always say "Update drivers", even when the lastest drivers where making the problem worse. In the end i was the one who fixed my problem not the support p.s you have got to be kidding about the video card heating problems, mine is water cooled, sits at like 25 degrees, so i don't think that is the problem -

i have the same problem, with the stuttering. it started after i reformatted my computer. Before the reformat i had 1.02 patch and the game was running smoothly. i have tried everything , new drivers, rolling back the drivers, directx but can't seem to fix it. i emailed EA and got this: "Hello, Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts technical support. I'm sorry you're having that trouble with the game, but there are some things we can do to correct it. The latest patch for Zero Hour is actually 1.02, which you can get here: http://www.eagames.com/official/cc_general...mos.jsp?state=6 You'll want to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your hardware, as well as the current version of DirectX. DirectX is available from Microsoft's site: http://www.microsoft.com/directx Click on their links for DirectX 9.0b run-time, follow the directions to download the update, and then double-click on the update after it's downloaded to run it. Video and Sound drivers will be available on the manufacturer's website. Some common manufacturer's websites: ATI, for RADEON and RAGE cards: http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html nVidia, for GeForce cards: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp Creative Labs, for Sound Blaster cards: http://www.americas.creative.com/support/ For other video and sound cards you may have to search the Internet for the manufacturer's website. After downloading the driver package, you need to double-click it to run the installation of the drivers. You should also make sure that you have closed any programs or tasks running in the background as sometimes one of the programs can conflict with the game. Background applications such as anti-virus programs are often the cause of conflicts. For Windows 95/98/ME: · Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Delete key once. · Single Click on each Program in the list and Click "End Task". · The only two applications that you want listed here before installing or running the game are "explorer" and "systray". · You will need to repeat this process after closing each application. For Windows XP: · Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time · Click the "Processes" tab. · Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User Name to sort by user name. · Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE. · Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names. · Click on END PROCESS · Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile. Note that some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system. Try the game again at this point, and see if those updates correct the issue. If the trouble persists, or some new error appears, I'm going to need some more system information to troubleshoot your issue. Can you send me the information from a program called dxdiag? To do this: · Go to Start -> Run. · In the box, type the following: dxdiag · Click "OK" · Click the "Save All Information" button on the first screen of the application. · Then on top of the "Save As" box that pops up, select Desktop (if it's not set to save there already), then click Save. · Finally, attach the dxdiag.txt to your email reply. After we receive this file we can continue troubleshooting the issues at hand and hopefully come to a solution. Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Online Support, Frank L. EA Technical Support " So far i still cannot fix it, any ideas on solutions would be most welcome Specs Athlon Xp 2400+ 512 DDR pc2700 Geforce 3 TI 200 Epox 8KHA+ 80gb 7200rpm seagate AC' 97
