Which recent sound card brand works for WinXP?
Doctor Destiny replied to PurpleGaga27's topic in Tech Discussion & Support
Asus sound cards are really the only ones worth getting anymore. Creative's are really bad, unless they improved in recent years. I've used Asus in the past and it worked very well. Though, really, your onboard is fine if you have a good sound system. You can put in a good sound card but if you have crappy $40 speakers, you're wasting your time. You're better off getting a pair of good bookshelf speakers, an amp, sub and speaker wire. Make your own sound system. I have bookshelf speakers and an amp and have no need for much else. Sound is crisp and clean, and that's running on a mobo sound card. -

EA should not have done anything. They're giving it away. Stop complaining, zocom. It gets really annoying. -
Are you ready for 64-bit PC gaming?
Doctor Destiny replied to PurpleGaga27's topic in Gaming Discussion
I've been running a 64-bit OS for years already. If you're PC gaming and not running a 64-bit OS, you're way, way behind. -
According to those specs, I'm at the minimum with GPU. Sheesh.

Been playing MW2 with some Skype friends frequently and I continually get my ass beat in Skullgirls by my girlfriend. XD

Making money isn't the issue. Ubisoft is deceitful, lazy and greedier than even EA and Activision. Do not support a company that blames poor PC sales on "piracy"; do not support a company who can't be assed to make their games play at 60FPS at 1080p; do not support a company that claims "30FPS is more cinematic"; do not support a company that deliberately butchers PC versions; do not support a company that lies about graphical fidelty; and, for the love of god, do not support a company that does everything it can to **** PC gamers over at every turn. EA, Activision, 2K, et al might suck in some ways but they're not doing that. Matter of fact, you might as well drop EA from that list. They're actually working towards being better for everyone, especially the PC crowd.

RA3 & Uprising Don't Launch
Doctor Destiny replied to Doctor Destiny's topic in Tech Discussion & Support
One of those two seems to have done it. RA3 launches finally. Good enough. -
Been having an itch to play some EA Command and Conquer but it won't let me. I recently had to reinstall Windows so I had to redownload C&C3 and RA3, and now they won't launch. I've set the executables to XP SP3 compatibility and to run as admin, but still nothing. Tried bibber's fixed launchers but still not working. I used the switch bibber's launchers include to launch a game directly instead of with the launcher. Still doesn't do ****. It tries to start since I'll see RA3Launcher.exe and RA3EP1.exe under Processes. However, I don't get anything and I'm not sure what else I need to check. The game (and TW as well) worked fine on this machine with Origin and TUC. I have no idea what changed unless launching with the -win switch causes an issue for the first launch.

RA3 & Uprising Don't Launch
Doctor Destiny replied to Doctor Destiny's topic in Tech Discussion & Support
It used to work fine with Origin enabled and I don't know what launchers I have. I only got them a few months ago so if it's been within the last few months, no, I have old ones. They worked fine before so I don't understand why it would quit working now all of a sudden. -
Why would you buy Far Cry 4 and support a crappy company like ubisoft?
-
I think you mean "ridiculous."

One Install Multiple Mods?
Doctor Destiny replied to Mizmo Spacely's topic in Red Alert 2 / Yuri's Revenge
No, it's really not possible. Apollo, Speeder and a few others have tried. It doesn't work standalone. -
Some more Advanced Warfare. Still awesome. Also played some Modern Warfare 2 with some buds. Way, way too much fun.

Standalone RA2 and YR, at this time, is not possible. -

I realize it's PC Gamer, but the best anti-piracy is Earthbound on the Super NES. It let you play the game up to the final boss, but when you went into the room to get to the boss, the game would crash and it deleted your save. That is ingeniously evil. xD -
The Xbox One doesn't require the Kinect anymore. Hasn't since launch...

Finally got Advanced Warfare and Borederlands: The Pre-Sequel. So damn worth it. Played a bit of both today... goddamn... so totally worth it.

Generals had that as an option and it did it well. So did TW and RA3. No idea about TT though. -

There isn't a way to do it.
