Still having problems it seems. Got other mods I've been playing over the the last few months for UT3 all without any issues. I thought it could have been those.. so completely did a new install yesterday and wiped everything down the the registry, then installed this first (even with a new download to check that wasn't at fault) and low and behold... RenX crashes just as the splash screen comes up. UT3 still works fine... better than fine actually, works better than before! I think I'll wait for a much later, more stable Beta version. I had this problem with A Path Beyond when the first ever release of that came along, so I'll just rely on my patience. Nevermind, it's all work in progress after all.

Can't even get into a game on mine... Title screen comes up and glitches like crazy before crashing. Is this Beta compatible with v2.1 and the Titan Pack installed?

I've Blue Screened my 64 Bit Ultimate RTM version (with full legitimate retail license) twice already Despite this, it's basically the best Windows operating system to date.

(Rumors) Microsoft thinking of buying EA?
Saracen replied to Castleman12's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Well when you get 2 companies considered to be at the top of the corporate "food chain", of course they're gonna go nuts. Such things are usually mergers where they buy an equal share in each other. Blizzard-Activision is a prime example in that regard. Had this deal been true. I imagine the monopolies commission would have a field day. But then the MC are useless. The European MC are probably the harshest, and the media claims they hate Microsoft with a passion. But really a few $100,000 fines isn't exactly a dent in their pockets. I'd be more in favour of the MC charging a fine equal to, or greater than either the take-over price of the company they swallow, or 3-5 years revenue that company would make under the corporation's banner. Exclusions to this rule would only apply if the company they take over are a significant 'loss leader' in the industry and need to be saved in face of certain bankruptcy. Sure the games industry isn't as strong as it could be. But acutioning off a corporation like EA because their huge profits are down by an insignificant percentage, is not a call for legitimate sale in my eyes. Standing alone EA will still be here in another 25 years without needing help. They just need to retune their business strategies and not pay themselves huge bonuses because an extra copy of Sims 3 sold in New York state, thus reaching their sales forcast. At the end of the day, many companies would still be alive and kicking in this recession if capitalist greed and no common sense was out-ruled in favour of clear viable business strategy.. But as we've seen, CEOs lining their pockets is more of a concern than the company's and employees survival... Idiocy at its finest! -
I found it on the Escapist News.... wasn't asking anyone to download it anyway. Only attempting to highlight what a retarded program it is!

To be honest, everything they listed in that survey should just go straight into a collectors edition. With that amount of content the incentive is there to pre-order anyway. If they want a pre-order program, the I think it should only be a couple of units on offer (one exclusive and one late game level unlockable) when they pre-order the special edition only. I havent got a 360, but the Forza 3 offer that GAME are doing here in UK is a pretty neat deal. The price as such reflects that. But I'd have a large incentive to pre-order that special edition cos I'm nuts about racing games. So if C&C 4 offered a similar deal, I'd be right in there with my money.

I was looking at weird videos from the strange mind of David Firth (look him up) on Youtube, when I ran into this rather disturbing video. Probably older than the internets, but this is the first time I've seen it.

It seems to me that so many of you here do not like the idea of the changes made in C&C 4. In fact you'd prefer to continue with "Strategy-lite" C&C base building and Tank rush mechanics over something different.... But why? The excuse that "It's just not C&C" will not be taken as a legitimate answer here I'm afraid. For that, there are 7 other titles and their expansions to go play if you want that. Times move on and so has the majority of the RTS genre. I personally think that the further away from the original mechanics this game gets, the better it becomes. I can perhaps understand the crawler mechanic coming under some scrutiny... But still, it's different, and really I am in support of any idea which doesn't involve countless optimum build orders and all the usual harassment, tank hoarding, rushing etc. So in this thread, elaborate properly and give some individual and personal feedback on this. Because I'm dying to know why the community wants to play the same old game again that they've had several times before. To me, wanting such a thing just seems like an illogical fallacy???

Need For Speed: Shift (PS3) As good as I expected. Far outweighs the hype, and it's the 1st EA game to use a persistent profile (As C&C 4 will have), and to be honest, it really isn't as bad as EA or its critics are making out... Works wonderfully in my opinion!

Red Alert 3 Commander's Challenge Available on Xbox 360
Saracen replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Not according to my Playstation Store. It was out yesterday (Thursday), so a week earlier than announced. Price is still correct at £7.99 though. -
This gives me the feeling that it's a recycle of a few older movies with a modern twist. The Running Man mostly comes to mind. High profile convicts being thrust into a gameshow which also happens to be the most popular on TV... Change the running man gameshow into a computer game, add some of the "The Lawnmower Man" Cliche, with a strong influence of Tron, and have yourself a new movie. There's only room for one computer game style movie within the next 12 months, and this one is made of much win!

Not wanting to give in to temptation by cashing the check or using it to market Kotaku, or waste the money, we came up with a different solution. Balls in your court EA. Link is here if anyone wants it. It's basically the same as the copy-pasta here... But you'll get a few extra comments, and a few extra pics of the box. Discuss!

Anyone getting this? This game has been outsourced to a third party UK developer called Slightly mad studios. The developers here, are many ex-SimBin employees who have previously produced the critically acclaimed GTR PC racing simulation series, from SimBin. This means, for the first time in the NFS franchise's history EA are not developing thier own landmark racing game... so unlike titles that followed Most Wanted, it might actually be good! I haven't seen any reviews yet. But EA are claiming that the reviews for the X-Box 360 version were "exceptionally good" and "surpassed their expectations".... So being a racing nut who loves a good track racing game like Grid and the GTR racing series... I'm getting this next week! A few videos below... Seeing a racing (RS) version of my Renault Megane is awesome!

Joe Kucan Video Interview from Jeuxvideo.com
Saracen replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
That's one of the best interviews I've seen regarding Joe. Very well done indeed. I must say though that Joe is starting to show his age. He still looks very much the same, but you can see that it's starting to catch up with him. Even more reason that this should be his last game. He's got a great legacy, and I feel that it's going to end on a well deserved high. I hope EA could still use him though behind the scenes of future titles. His experience with this franchise is a huge asset and one I feel will go far in years to come. -
IGN has reviewed the game, the review is good, very good! Vid below:

I've actually missed this thread. And so, late on the bandwagon, I wish to protest about this box art in a C&C Fanatic way. How can Apoc lie about his height, no way is he that tall! There is something in this industry to descibe a game, I've called it "Click-2-Win" but it's officially known as a "One Click Pony"... is this phrase the inspiration behind this AAA+ title Apoc is producing?

OK, here's a further update into the mechanics of this game, and is from the Community forum for Achron. This quote has come from a random member, who at present, I do not know what link he has to Hazardous Software, or whether he just has way too much time on his hands..... So, read away! I'm loving this game already! It contains the ideal strategic gameplay I've been looking for since I pondered this idea myself...and has the potential to be freakin' epic! Here's hoping the execution on final release is correct and very well done!

I mentioned in a C&C 4 thread just yesterday: The idea I had was a 4D RTS, with potential repercussions in the 5th Dimension. Sorta like you see in the Red Alert FMVs, but actually as a game... I came up with this idea a few years ago... and told a few Games developers that having a Meta Time Strategy game would be nothing short of pure awesome... I even spent time on a few indie developer forums, spouting the idea and asking someone to just make the damn thing... It seemed to fall on deaf ears. A vision that RTS could be innovatively changed beyond the normal 3 dimensions was never actually looking like a possibility until now. It seems someone did indeed listen, and ran with the idea. It's a game called Achron, and revolves around very similar principles and rules which I outlined in my forum ideas back then. I could sue the pants off them, but it seems the idea was thought of before me, so no chance of that.. But to be honest, I don't care... If this improves RTS for the better, I'd like to think that's reward enough. There's also an Escapist Vid which adds extra explanation to the whole idea, here.

I actually spoke to Adam Isgreen of Jet Set Games back in September 2008 about the idea of creating a 4D RTS with potential emphasis on the 5th dimension... this was his reply: So as you see, he has his doubts on how it would work... But I'll be interested in seeing what he makes about Achron. I'll fire off an e-mail to him and get some judgement, and give you his reply here in the near future. EDIT: I have also sent Adam the link to this 1 hour 11 minute presentation on Achron and the mechanics behind it... If you're looking to understand the game, and how it's not as complex as it sounds, watch this:

Metaphorically, I would say you're incorrect. It's not so much gouging your eyes out, more-or-less it's replacing them so you see things in a different light. Nothing ever survived without evolution. So let's address this paragraph I missed. Indeed, C&C 4 isn't new, and yes it's only different from pre-existing titles in the franchise. But the predecessors have been living in a box for many years. It's been a small tight box it's called it's own little world, closed off from the reality that things have changed. Now, C&C 4 has escaped and is jumping into other people's open boxes. But I personally think that while this curious title isn't exactly unique in any way, it's found fresh air, and that's what it's needed for a long time. Sure, being curious has its down sides, and that's what killed the cat. But looking outside the box has advantages that could spur on new innovations that change things for the better. I have ideas (which I've probably spent too much time on my hands to think about) which could improve the RTS genre in an extremely innovative way never before seen in this gaming industry. However I'm not a programmer, so I can't build a working model... and there's no chance I could give the idea to a developer, because of all the legal ramifications that go along with it... So, my idea is dead in the water!

Upon watching one of Zee's C&C Legos videos, I found these in the related box.

Which I never said. I was referring to many people wanting the same gameplay style as this game's predecessors. And really it can only be called a logical fallacy if I was completely misinformed or unaware of C&C 4's gameplay mechanics. So I'm kinda thinking you've misinterpreted my words there. As far as the core gameplay and most of the mechanics go, yes, they are the same game. There have been changes to the Engine, graphics, UI, and minor mechanics. But inherently C&C 3 is no different as the 1995 classic. The formula has remained intact for so long that strategy has never been a part of this franchise. It's always been about build orders, specific unit spams and the like... As a result (including RA3) C&C has become progressively and embarrassingly easier over the years. So either I'm an Uber 1337 pl4y3r who should have been a pr0 at the top of the 1 vs 1 ladder for several years. Or, the game is not longer an essential antagonist (Even on hardest difficulty), and contains too many statistically predictable elements. My conclusion on the awareness of the issue therefore is that the former applies most when it comes to previous C&C titles.

For normal sensitivity, that sure is strange. Not even a blip on the radar with my Avast. Anway TPB or in fact any other site is not a concern any more. I admit, in the last 12 months previous to March, I had been downloading many many torrents which were undoubtedly not of a legal nature. However, since my ISP (Along with a couple of others in my country) have stated that they're at the forefront of the Anti-piracy movement.... I sat back and thought about it, and realised I end up buying everything that I download anyway. So what's the point in risking getting caught and cut off the internet when the IP holders still get my cash anyway? After all. There's not exactly a plethora of music or indeed games worth grabbing any more, apart from maybe 2 or 3 titles, the next 12 months is pure pants for the PC format. So I have money flowing out of my ears because the games industry can't put together many decent titles of late. As for movies? Well, for the price of 2 Movie store rentals I get to see however many movies and console game I can cram in within a month. There's more than enough online movie rental companies falling over each other to provide the best deals. So for a bit of cash, I can still try before I buy anyway. So as far as torrent sites go, they can die for all I care. They are after all, half the reason why games prices are high, and DRM is slapped on every god damn PC title these days. In turn that only serves to potentially infringe upon the license we purchase to play/listen/watch media from the entertainment industry. Sure piracy will never die, and neither will the black market. But the tougher it can be made, the less I get to hear about the whole DRM issue. Sure I love a bit of free software and music, but I now prefer it in the legitimate form such as OpenOffice.org or some talented unsigned band trying to make a name for themselves.

C&C 4: Tiberian Twilight Hi-Res Box Art & New Logo
Saracen replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I wouldn't think so. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I think the expression is perfect. I think it actually shows a more human side to him. He looks like a man who is indeed in troubled times. There's still some anger there, but also some fear.... Almost like the end is indeed nearer than expected. Such is the introduction to the game. It's never advisable to oversell a product you place on the shelf. It just needs to show a basic image of what the game is, but be detailed enough to draw the eye. I think the box art succeeds highly enough to match that description. A "Busy" image isn't as attractive as you might think. Consumers are machines when it comes to buying, and they're not interested in what's on the outside anyway... it's what's inside that counts. Remember this game has only been seen at the pre-alpha stage so far. Would it have been fair for the community to slate Renegade X when it was first announced? You still had original UT3 powerups in place, and were using many placeholder elements from the game your team is totally converting. The maps, models and such have also improved from what I can tell as well. At any point in the early stages, you could have had an army of people complaining that the TC looked crap because of all those placeholders. Thankfully, no one really noticed. But you more than anyone should know that game development takes time. So I'd kinda expect you to be a bit more on EA's level more than most. But I'm guessing we'll see one hell of an eye candy show by the time the product ships. -
But then WiC had a 30 minute timer on it's Domination and Tug of War Game modes, so games couldn't go on and on for ages. 30 minutes wasn't a lifetime either... There used to be so much action going on at once, that 30 minutes often never seemed enough at times. I believe the Assault mode, which went over 2 rounds of gameplay with each team taking turns to attack and defend, just went on for 15 minutes per round... So really, games were still fast and fluid. Plus the ability to jump in and out of games like a FPS was a great way of playing the game too. The servers always had maps and game modes on auto-rotation and such as well, so the action wasn't broken up by a lobby system. The lobby system and option to create your own games, game modes and map rotation etc was still there, but it wasn't the defining feature that made the Multiplayer great.
