    1.06c development topic

When the game loads a trigger, it copies the first's 5 characters of it's name to an trigger structure, then places a NULL character terminator at the 5th position. So, NOD14 will now be NOD1 . If there are a NOD1 trigger, then you got trouble.

WinXP is dead.... long live Windows!

Windows Embedded POS-Ready 2009 uses NT5.1 kernel and is XP like. It will be supported til 2019. Also, Chinese WIndows XP will still be supported

Windows 9 in 2015? And for free?

They probably shut it down due the cost for maintaining it. No, they really removed it from their servers. I can't access it anymore, even with the corporate Windows update.

You can't. Microsoft shut down their servers.
  9. That isn't actually google's fault. They are abusing from a feature that chrome have for not bothering it's users. Anyway, I don't know what happened with the recent versions of chrome. It have nice some nices memory leaks that makes it unusable on my 1GB computer.
  10. Yes. Windows XP is a bloated 2000, no doubt about it. But it does not support some technologies that XP supports and my machine uses, so i'm not downgrading. 7 gives me no new stuff, that's why i'm not upgrading my computer. If 2000 supports nicely my computer, I would use it. I don't care about what US gorvenment do. They have their reasons for that. I Have my own reasons for not doing that.
  11. That's what Microsoft wants you to belive, because THERE ARE unofficial implementations of DirectX 10 for XP. http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/ About the sound: Was implemented in Vista a new kind of sound manager that I don't know mutch. The architecture about how sounds are played are different from XP
  12. indows XP's life was extended due the failure of Windows Vista, combined with the beginning of NT kernel in home users OS. Windows Vista is bloated, and so does Windows 7 and 8. They come with a lot of 'tools' that you will never use, and the requirement of 3D acceleration to render the desktop (Aero, metro) requires processing that could be used in somewhere else. Also, Windows XP gdi rendering IS FASTER than Windows vista, 7 and 8 in all tests. So disabling Aero in order to use gdi to render the desktop results in a slower system as if you were running XP. XP also uses much less memory and resources than 7 and 8, keeping old hardwares running smoothly. Windows XP still do the job for the most of users. There is Office 2010 that is pretty mutch the same thing as Office 2013. Flash player still available and there still Av products, nice browsers and stuffs like that. Windows 7 brings no advantages for those ones. For gamming, what killed Windows XP is the lack of DX10 and higher. If most games were using OpenGL, I doubt people were going to upgrade. About Security holes: that is a problem, nothing to add about that. Basicly, Users will still use XP because companies still support it, and companies will still support XP because users use it. When the users stops using it, then XP will be dead. I still run XP, and won't upgrade that machine because I get nothing usefull from there new OS. That would simple bloat my system.

    Farewell to WinAmp

WinAmp just got bloated after 2.0. I used it for a short time in my Cyrix MII. After i've changed to foobar. It still lightweigth, you can compare the CPU usage from WMP and it. Also, foobar is so customizable as winamp.
  14. Bad games cames for all platforms, not just PC. What happens is that usually the first build of an unfamous game are for PCs, then just after a while it is ported to consoles, but of course there are a few exceptions. Maybe what is going on is that unexperienced developers are focusing in something they can see in the first plane, wich are the graphics. Interaction IS the key, otherwise why do you think online games became what it is now. Maybe a better example, why COMMAND & CONQUER became what it was, early? (Early c&cs, of course.) The Idea of building your OWN base, your OWN strategy, your OWN units, are what made it is. Interaction are not graphics, but how your personality affects how the game will work. One day I saw a PSP game that the objective is to not get murdered, and it just run repetitive scenes until you get murdered. (I don't know if there is a way of winning that game) An just click and watch game, witch is in my opinion, something really boring. Saying that PC gaming will fall is a ridiculous affirmation. Most people that I know prefer an PC rather than an Xbox, for example, and PCs got something that consoles nowdays are lacking: Freedom.
  15. The laptop I have got a Intel HD Graphics 4000, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT630M with Optimus. I though then it would be a bug in the Intel Graphics, so I switch to the NVIDIA Card and the bug disapeared. Change back to Intel card and it disappeared too... weirdly. Anyway, thanks for the interest.

Will you buy or upgrade to Windows 8?

After some time Windows XP gets unsupported, there is a community that port/hacks stuff from newest Windows versions back to a previous one. They did a amazing job with Windows 98SE/ME KernelEx, and there are some hacks to get XP-higher software back to 2000. http://www.msfn.org/board/ I think that XP will get in the same way. But I think XP will live longer due 3rd party software, as did Win98.

Will you buy or upgrade to Windows 8?

Windows XP is just a bloated 2000 version until SP2 came for it. ME "was just" a XP wihout the high-colors icons and the 9x kernel. they just bloated it in a way that it would require too much memory to run, and since 9x got a poor memory management, it became catastrophic. Actually it will run just like any other 9x OS if you got a huge amount of RAM. Currently, Windows OSes are becoming very bloated. Windows 7 got a lot of stuff that I won't use in my life, and so does Windows 8. With Windows XP, I only need about a 15gb partition to install it in, plus all others softwares that needs to be reinstalled after an system install (such as Microsoft Office). With Windows 7, I need 40gb for the same porpouses. I miss a feature that previous versions of Windows had. Asking what exactly the user wants to be installed in his system. For games that won't run in XP, actually people run it because the computer is somehow old, or because there aren't really any advantages for the Hardware he is running. He wouldn't upgrade to Windows 7 to get DirectX11, as his card only support DX9. As newest versions of OpenGL still run in XP, what is killing XP for gamming is the lack of newest versions of DX for it, since almost every company seems to create games only for DirectX.
  18. I found a bug. When clicking the building icon to place it down, and after that your MCV just get destroyed, you still can place it down. And maybe this one is just for me, but... infantry seems gliched, take a look at the screenshot Using Iceweasel 17.0.7, which is actually just Firefox 17 from Debian repositories.

Why would I upgrade if XP still do the job? If it ain't broken, don't upgrade: ftw

  21. Are tou aiming recreating the game exactly, or make it seems more real? if you are trying to make it exactly like the original C&C, there are some things that you may consider: - Vehycles moviment seems too much perfect, take a look at the original game to see how odd it is - Only the right door of barracks is used. - In original game, you CAN build in the fog of war, even if you didn't killed it.

Yep. It was a 6 players game. Well, if it is a know bug, let's just wait for the fix, or try to get more information about the bug.
