Lightning_Hunter replied to Nyerguds's topic in Command & Conquer Patch 1.06
I was messing around with C&C today, and was getting quite annoyed by the crackling audio that happens when my HD Music Pack is being used. So, I decided to investigate and discovered something interesting. As soon as I turned off "limit frame rate" in CCConfig, most of the crackling went away! This caused me to investigate further, because the screen now scrolled too fast in-game. So, I started to look at Red Alert, which rarely gets any crackling audio using my Red Alert HD Music Pack. What I discovered was that Red Alert is capped at 120fps, while C&C is a mystery (I'm guessing 60fps, since it does not say?) So, I decided to disable "limit frame rate", but went in to my Nvidia settings, and manually set the frame rate to be limited at 120fps. This completely worked! Now my screen scrolls at a decent speed in-game (in fact, a bit faster than before, which I felt was too slow) - AND most of the audio crackling is gone! In case anyone wants to solve the audio crackling with the HD Music Pack, or if someone simply wants the screen to scroll faster (but not too fast), this solution is definitely for you. -

So, I know the problem with the Orca's ignoring the command to attack has been discussed before, but this is ridiculous! I uploaded a video to show just how stupid they are. I couldn't even get enough Orca's to attack an Advanced power plant to destroy it. It seems impossible to get these Orca's to destroy the power plant in this particular mission. Oh, and it doesn't matter if you put the Orca's in different groups and order them separately. Only 5 Orca's out of 15 are willing to obey the command. -

Well, I reached 128 music entries today, the menu music refused to play, and the game crashed upon starting a level. Is there any way to increase the limit? I always add a few good war tracks here and there when I find them, and it would be a shame if I have reached my limit. I had a handful of new music tracks to add, too! -

Hey Nyerguds, is there any hope of having the arrow keys scroll the screen? -

Haha, nice one. I understand what you mean. It was stupid of the original authors to include only a savegame file, and nothing else. This is kind of reminiscent of the Quake series. Authors would often times only release a .BSP file (the map info), and not the .MAP file (the source). This meant nobody could ever modify the map in the future (good for copyright, but bad for future compatibility). -

I've decided to try some user-made singleplayer maps for the first time ever (despite the fact that I've been playing this game for 17 years). I figured out how to get the one's containing a .bin file and .ini file to appear in the missions list by reading the FAQ. However, I noticed there are some that have only a savegame. I'm guessing these were older user-made maps? Is there any way to get these to work in the new mission list, or even at all? Sorry if this question has been answered somewhere. I looked through the whole FAQ and didn't see this mentioned. -

I did. Your spoiler made no sense. During the Commando missions, you can still fail even if you have a perfect technique. Any time a commando is required to blow up more than one building, it's possible to fail the mission due to bad luck. -

Perhaps it could be an option in CCConfig.exe that only applies to singleplayer then? It really is annoying when the commando missions rely on luck to destroy buildings. There are several covert operations that require your commando to blow up more than two buildings. If minigunners come out of all of the buildings, you are screwed. Sometimes if two minigunners come out of one building, you can die almost immediately. -

Are you going to give a reason why? Or are you not being serious with your post? -

Actually yeah, I agree. Increasing the delay of the C4 would probably be best. Nyerguds, can this be done with the patch? -

You know what other "bug" has always annoyed me? The fact that commandos are instantly shot by mini-gunners when they blow up a building. I know this is not technically a bug, but it certainly is stupid. Some of the commando missions in Covert Operations become pure luck, because your commando can be killed instantly after destroying a building. You have to keep saving and loading before each building he blows up sometimes, especially if he is low health. There should be a delay before the mini-gunners can start firing after a building is blown up. -

I tried that, but they still act the same. It appears to be an issue if too many of them exist in the map, rather than the size of the current selected group. If there are 3 small groups for example, one group might not respond at all, or several Heli's from each group. -

Yes, I noticed this in the past also. However, it seems to be a lot less clicking when all you have to do is have them selected and press "S" a few times. They also seem to attack with rockets as often as possible no matter what direction they are aiming using this method. It also works great if you have a large group of them. I never really thought about the rockets as being better for going over walls. Thanks for that tip. -

Were the Orcas always so bugged in the original C&C? If you have more than about 8 of them, the rest will just sit in their Helipads not doing anything when you tell them to attack. If you click on a building like 20 times, they will all leave their pads at first, but most will return as if they are out of ammo. This actually makes it impossible to mass attack and kill a Temple of Nod with Orcas. Since only about 8 can attack it at a time, the AI will repair it before you can come back (and SAM sites will destroy you in the meantime in most missions). Also, if you tell about 8 Orcas to target a second object after they kill the first, some of them will go back to the Helipads even though they still have ammo left. Even if you keep clicking the second object, some of them still go back. They are really quite bugged in large groups. As a side note, I discovered something about Mammoth tanks that is quite interesting. The rockets that they first fire when they approach the enemy - which are obviously way more useful against troops - can be fired all the time if you keep hitting "S" with the tanks selected. This will prevent them from using the turret, and they will only fire rockets. This makes Mammoth tanks far more useful against troops! I wonder if Westwood purposely made it so the Mammoth tanks can only fire those rockets when they first encounter the enemy? This trick I discovered seems to be a way around that. Everyone here knows that you can sell troops by putting the money sign halfway between them and a wall, right? -
I tried disabling Hyperthreading on my CPU, and so far I haven't seen any crashes. It could be luck though. I'll post if it happens again.

I've encountered a strange freeze about 3 times now that is accompanied by no error messages or anything. Basically, I'll be in the middle of a game, and the sound starts stuttering, and the screen just freezes. After this point, I can't do anything. Nothing works, including Alt + tab, windows key, ctrl + alt + del, or alt f4. I have to shut my computer down cold and start it back up again... Has anyone else experienced this? I have not had this problem in any other game I've played on my computer, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. It is strange that the game completely crashes my computer, with no possible way to recover it without shutting down improperly. Yes, sorry for the confusion. I'm talking about the score screen. I wasn't sure what to call it. The sounds during the score screen are extra quiet for me, while all the sounds in the game are normal volume. This also applies to the sounds when the world map shows you where to attack next. I can barely hear the sounds at all, unless I turn the sound volume up all the way (but then the sounds in the game are way too loud). I tried alt+tab and the windows key to get out of the game and back in, but nothing worked. I did try using the keyboard, but couldn't figure out how to select a game to save. I did just now realize that I can type in a new name for a game and press enter twice to save it, but I still can't figure out how to save over an old game. The arrow keys do not appear to work in that particular menu. -

Sorry for multiple posts, but I just found another bug that is pretty critical. Sometimes the mouse cursor fails to work in the menu until I restart the game. It will work in the game itself, but it I press escape to open the save/load/abort menu, it does not move. This means I cannot save the game or anything. Obviously, this can completely ruin a single player game, because you cannot save your progress, and have to quit and restart and lose everything you did. I'm not sure what causes it. So far it appears to be random... Also, random graphics tend to appear in the black shroud as I play the game in 1024x768 resolution. In addition, if I scroll the mouse to the edge of the map, it duplicates the map off to the side (I think this might only be when the map is too small to fit on the screen). These are two separate unrelated issues, however. The random graphics that appear in the black shroud aren't on the edges of the map, but just anywhere at all. -

Did you change the cutscene music, Nyerguds? I noticed it is different for both GDI and NOD. It's different even if I have hidden music turned off. Is there a way to get the old cutscene music back? It used to be the music that would say "great shot! Return to base immediately..." Also, I noticed something else strange. If I turn the sound volume down in the game to somewhere in the lower end and turn up my speakers, the sounds during the credits cannot be heard. All other sounds can be heard just fine in the game, but the sounds during the credits are almost non-existent. Only if I turn the sounds up too loud in the game can the sounds be heard during the credits. This seems to be some sort of volume balance issue. -

Thanks to your help Nyerguds, I was able to add another 40 tracks or so to my playlist! I added all the C&C Renegade music (I think the music in this game really suits C&C, especially since it was by the same artist), as well as all the Nintendo 64 Command & Conquer Music. Plus, I grabbed a few of the best remixes from Youtube and various other war tracks that fit with the game. If anyone is interested in the music compilation I have with themes.ini and all, let me know. -

Haha, awesome. I think I'll definitely be adding some random war songs to the playlist. There is a group from Sweden called "Puissance" that does a lot of war-like tracks that would fit C&C, although some are a bit darker(C&C does have some darker ambient music though). The track below definitely comes to mind! There was no youtube link, so I found it on mp3bear. The last minute of this track always gets me. Sad, but extremly beautiful, and definitely fitting for a war theme: http://mp3bear.com/puissance-erlangen We need a music thread for good tracks suitable in C&C. -

Aha. I think I'll do that with some of the more unique remixes, and just turn off the HasAlternate tag for the rest. Thanks for the help Nyerguds! The music.ini file is awesome indeed! Maybe I'll add other tracks to the list also. -

Indeed, that was a great idea. I'll mess with it. Actually, it might even be cool to be able to have all the remixes AND originals in the list. I might enjoy that! Can I edit the ini to do such a thing? -

Right, I knew about the option to enable/disable the remixes. I was just wondering if there was a way to keep all the original tracks intact while adding the hidden tracks. Can I edit scores2.mix to make this happen, or would that not work?Edit: ah, once again I just saw your edit. Hahaha. I'll try what you said. Thanks.
