When you have buildable construction yards, and you cancel one while building, the game crashes. He wants to prevent that from happening. And to be honest, I don't know of a fix.

ah, I dont think there is a fix for this. Only way around this would be to sell your warfactory. That would cancel the MCV build. Or the other building that is needed for this (Repair Depot?) could work. Though its a long shot at best.
